  • New looks for old spells?

I see Sundren already has a number of custom spells, so clearly creatig such additional content is not an issue. So my suggestion is to allow a bit of variety for the core NWN spells.

Firstly, summons. What about scripting in a choise of what you'd like to summon with a Summon Creature I-IX instead of giving everybody those default animals and elementals? Various themes could be added, such as undead (yes, I know there already are undead summoning spells, but this way there could be some different kinds of different strength, corporeal, incorporeal); shadows for anyone who's into Shadow Weave (in addition to the existing Shadow Conjuration spells); magical beasts or what have you; elementals from tiniest to elder for elemental mages, more animals (or animal spirits like in MotB) for druids.

Secondly, a little more vaiety could be added to elemental damage spells. NWN2 already has more spells of different types of elemental damage, but I think it could still be improved. A Sonicball instead of Fireball, or Divineball, or Magicball, for example. More damage types could be added to Flame Weapon (and equivalents) for someone who just doesn't like fire (cold damage for those Auril worshippers, or maybe negative energy damage for those who feels particularly evil today, or positive energy for someone who feel particularly.. good?).

Thirdly, (and maybe unnecessarily) I hear the druids are getting new wildshapes, but I don't know if Polymorph Self/Shapechange spells are getting some love too. If they are, I withdraw this part of my suggestion; if they aren't, it might be worth a shot adding some variety there too.

Anyway, that's my three cents. Any thoughts?

I like the idea, though I'm weary of how much work it would actually be to accomplish your ideas. Still, it would be nice to have something other than flame weapon for a weapon enhancing elemental spell. * I travel with an Aurilite quite often and they tell me bad mage when I do that* I wish I knew more about scripting and adding content. I'd really like to help. *dusts off some old books. Guess it's time to start reading*

The idea of more types of summons has been raised before, but it'd be quite a bit of work to do. The general concensus was yes, it's a nice idea, but it doesn't have priority.

Making a copies of a certain spell with only a different element kind of takes away the uniqueness of magic spells. Such a versatility increase also makes enemies with various types of damage resistance easier to handle and not requiring a different strategy. So, I don't know there.

Not aware of more wildshapes being done. They have gotten quite a few new ones in the past, but currently none are planned.

Different summons has been discussed before and its a good idea; you could perhaps have an IG item or level up option that alters your summon set based on your alignment or specialisation.

imo there are already tons of wildshapes to choose from as a pure druid, I dont know what MoMF brings but from the wiki it looks like a lot.

Making different spell types would make the wizard and cleric books non-canonical and Im pretty sure everyone is fine with NWN2 being a D&D game Besides there are already spells that make your character from every other one. Clerics of Auril could substitute another damage spell for 'Corona of Cold', A priest of Chauntua could swap out Divine favour for Entangle or a Enchanter could swap out one of his devastating damage spells for Hold Person or Dominate.
There are a wealth of spells to use that so rarely see the light of day in my opinion. This is where I get to promote my Darkness/Blindsight combo. It works, trust me

Yep! very true, I love me some Corona of cold! Kinda hard to make full use off unless your in a giant gongshow of a fight. Wish it had a visual effect though, but meh what can you do?

I agree with theif that we dont nessiciarly need a new barrage of spells to dictate faiths and what have you. On the other hand I see Dayledose's point. If what you want to do is buff everyone to heigh heavens, but might be a bit deflateing if a handfull of your buffs couldnt be used due to RP reasons, especaily given this is an RP server and, hypatheticly , mages could produce their own spells (( and I know Vigo loves to buff and nothing else)

Realisticly? It probly shouldnt be a project many resources are put towards in a use/reward standpoint. But hey! if there was a sudden ice saber style buff, i wouldnt complain it all

I was promoting a bit of veriety for polymorphing spells that would be available to mages, as opposed to 'custom' wildshapes that I know exist already.

So, can I persuade you to donate your troll blood for my alchemical experiments?
