    A Study Of Warmbloods

    ~ By Hsssaathlei'queroth del Slim Fang ~
    Sseth'Athra Palaeontologist and Raptor Trainer

    Entry 1:

Allow me to introduce myself. I am Hsssaathlei'queroth del Slim Fang, scholar of my people and trainer of raptors and versed in the study of nature.

As our homeland has become too confining, and my people are slowly advancing into these lands, I have been tasked with learning about the creatures inhabiting this inhospitable and cold vale.

I will concentrate my studies chiefly on the dominant species, which all appear to be of the class of warmbloods (Mammalia, subclass Theria), order of Primates, family Hominidae.

I have not been in this valley long, so my findings at this time are sparse at best.

In the weeks to follow, I shall keep a journal of what I observe, to share with you, my kin, so that we may better understand and adjust our actions.

Firstly, as their name suggests, they are warmblooded. As hard as this is to grasp - they do not bask in the sun to warm their bodies, instead by some terribly energy-consuming mechanism, they generate their own body heat.

This must be quite inconvenient for them - as is evident in the amount of nourishment they must imbibe.

As I write these words, the Ranger by the fire I am sharing has had his second meal today. His second! I am still full from that infant badger I had last week.

They seem to have trouble pronouncing the "s"-letter properly.

    Entry 2:

    First, let's talk about physiology.

Threse are the species I have been able to distinguish so far:

Humans: Seem the least capable physiologically, although they also appear to be quickest to learn new things. What they lack in beauty and grace they sometimes make up by brash actions and muscle.

Dwarves: Short, stout things that seem even more boorish than the humans. I would have classified them as the young of the other species if they were not twice as wide as most elves and loud to boot, with beards and rough, harsh speech. Heavily muscled, they are implacable once their anger is roused. Which with most seems to happen quickly. Unless this drink called "ale" is somehow involved.

Elves: Graceful beings, almost to be considered pretty even by our standards. They appear to be very long-lived, and seem to think themselves better than the other species by the slightly aloof way they carry themselves. I am inclined to agree.

I have yet to figure out what exactly the "hin" are. My initial conjecture that they are young humans or elves has proved to be implausible. Some have called them gnomes. I think. I am unclear if there is a difference. They are very short, and most rely on their quickness and small size to prevail.

Halfbreeds: seem to come in various forms. I have seen a half-orc... combining the boorish strength of humans with the shocking lack of grace and poise and wit of a different type of warmblooded creature called an "orc" that I have yet to see for myself. I have heard of half-elves, but I do not think I have seen one.
