Hope I got your attention. Was hunting with a player who likes monks he was upset at how his build was doing so I figured would seek peoples advice on it.

My thoughts of monks they can be alot of fun and multi-classing a monk can be very intresting. Monk/warlock, Monk/SD, Monk, invisible blade...etc.

BUT here is the challenge Must be a Pure class monk, with intelegence of 12.

I think human would be best to stick with as well and unarmed.

Though really tempting to make a Dwarf monk :P

anyway ideas, feat selection, starting stats? Lets see if we can build a monk who does not suck

    My ideas so far are.

    Human
    Str 14
    Dex 15
    con 12
    int 12
    wis 16
    chr 8

    luck
    toughness
    Weapon focus unarmed
    circle kick
    dodge
    dash

one increase of dex rest all strength ending with 16, 16 for dex and str

Dwarf build idea only difference was 14 con and instead of dodge taking stone bones.

    anyway ideas?

I've always had a great deal of difficulty with monks, because they really require a good share of magical items to really make them powerful. They have so many important stats (like all of them except charisma) and it's impossible to share the ability points out between them in a decent split. Good luck with that

Don't bother with dash, also what type of build are you shooting for? STR or Dex.

And a 14 WIS is good enough to start out with.

Straight up monk, this is up to level 10

        Human
        Str 10
        Dex 16
        Con 12
        Int 12
        Wis 16
        Cha 10

One of the 12s might be a 13, I forget. Pump Wisdom on Attribute gain. Took skills: Hide, Move Silently, Spot, Parry, Lore, and Tumble. Parry is a nice skill to have when you need to heal while under attack. Ultimately though, the only skill that really matters is Tumble, because every 10 points of tumble is +1 AC.

        feats are:
        1st- Luck of Heroes
        Dodge
        3rd- Weapon Finesse
        6th- Circle Kick
        9th- Extra Stunning Attack

End up with 21 AC without adding any bonuses from items yet with a DC 19 Stunning Fist. Next feat would probably be Improved Crit(unarmed). I would start out with kamas then gradually move in to unarmed weapon use.

Alternatively, if you want to go more defensive, drop your dex to 15, make int 13 and str 12. This would allow you to take combat expertise.

imo circle kick feat is a bad idea because it forceably changes your target to different target. you cant take down who you want to kill fast and i think it interrupts your next action, for example healing. its better to have cleave or great cleave.

i think monk's most important stats are dex for ab + ac, and wis for ac + dc for monk special attacks

Not in my experience. Circle kick is quite literally a free kick. When I have Flurry of Blows active, my first punch will hit, circle kick will hit someone else, but my remaining attacks for that round go back to my original target without any extra clicking.

Circle Kick is totally worth it. Cleave you have to deliver a killing blow - CK you just need to hit (not to mention encouraging the 15+ Dex is great for defense and stealth)
