I dont see why they didnt put all the interesting bits from 4th (Barbarian's natural attack and Sorceror's 'Wild Magic' to name a few finer points!) into a revision of 3rd...?

Ohhh yeah I see now, a wheelbarrow full of cash

Seriously there was a 19 year gap between 2nd and 3rd edition and now only 5 between 3.5 and 4th! As a over qualified D&D nerd I dont think I like the whole idea of winding down AD&D to fit the 'in' Crowd

I think that's one of the points some people never really get. D&D isn't a board game or a card game. The rulebooks are a guideline, that's it. You want gnomes as a player race? Bam. DM says they're a player race. Hell, they get their own nation if you want. Multiclassing? You don't have to take any penalties if the DM says you don't. New, more useful rituals? Done. The only hard things to add are the big things like new classes and changing major rules.

And Kasso, if 4th ED is too easy for you, your DM isn't trying hard enough.

I, Completely agree with everything that I quoted, I like the idea of less rules, it allows us to throw down our house rules rather quickly, after all they are "Guides." for us to follow, and these guides are ment for the Dm to use and if he dosen't want to follow these guide's, then he dosen't.

So, I give 4th Ed a thumbs up, for the fact that I dont have to follow the rules we disagree with, and all the crap we do agree with, its simplefied so I dont have to go through the books to search for the "Grapple" Mechanic, where I have to take a series of five to six rolls and by the end of it all I think i'm a brain surgeon.

Although Elusa raises many good points, they really only apply for PnP, which for many of us isn't where the consequences will hit.

Should another NWN be released, or a Baldur's Gate, or a whatever-the-hell-else-you-like, it will not be done with "house rules". It will likely be done to the 4E standards, which a lot of people seem not to enjoy.
