  • Constructive Criticism.

I've been tinkering in 3ds, paint shop pro, and the toolset and I'm looking for some constructive criticism. So far I've managed to re-texture a cloak and a shield and create a whole new sword. They're all Lathander themed (for no reason in-particular.)

This pic shows the shield and the cloak normal but I tinted the sword (All three items have tint-maps).

That's the sword without any tint. It's entirely original to me.

The cloak model itself was taken from the main game.
The Shield model was taken from the Sundren Hak.

Anyway, if you have any tips/suggestions or notice any place that I messed up let me know. I'm hoping to eventually make something decent enough to get it into Sundren.

Keep in mind that although weapons and shields will work for all race types, cloaks, armor, helms, etc will need a seperate model for Humans/hin, elves, orcs/dwarves, gnomes. (The slash denotes racial compatibility for a model, it still needs a seperately named model, but at least you know it can be identical)

As for the looks.. fantastic! I want them all!

Although it would be nice if the cloak could be made available in dark red/royal blue variations, with the Morninglord symbol remaining untouched. The grey gets old really fast, and Lathander promotes creativity in its followers after all... that should include the tailors too!
The same colours could be applied to the 'central part' of the shield, leaving the border and symbol untouched.

The cloak has a working tintmap so the colors can be changed to whatever the person who makes the blueprint decides. I did make it so the cloak and the symbol can both be changed independently of each other but after seeing the symbol tinted I think its best to leave it unchanged and just tint the cloak itself.

As far as I know, all the cloaks we have in Sundren now have all their tintmaps too so I think it's just about the blueprints that are set in the module.

As for the shield; the entire thing can be tinted except for the symbol. But I'm still tinkering with that and I'll probably completely redo the texture. I originally wanted to do a shield that was like this one but cut-off towards the top and have something like the middle piece on the sword on the top of the shield but I have yet to find any tutorial explaining lod meshes and how to make them so it will take me awhile to figure it out on my own.

Oh, and on cloak races: until I'm sure it looks good I'm not going to bother applying it to all the races but once I'm sure that I'm done with the texture itself I'll make all the models.

Shield looks absolutely badass. The cape is well done, though, I never particularly cared for capes that were plain white and carried holy symbol [x]. (( Despite Hano's being this. ))

The sword is awesome, though, looks a LOT better untinted in my opinion.

Every thing looks awesome. I think the sword would look good with just the sun-hilt tinted yellow and the blad remaining silver ... something of a combination between the two pics. If that was possible of course.

Awesome! I really like the sword. Lathander's weapon of choice is the Mace. Can you build one of those too?

All three are awesome! I hope you keep at it, I get all tingly when people make cool new one-of-a-kind stuff.

I took a look through the nwn models to make sure I wasn't going to accidentally make something that already exists and apparently this game has virtually nothing for maces.

                    Edit: Ugly mace go bye-bye.

Here are tinted and non-tinted models and I also figured I would show how the weapon effects look (and also make sure that I lined the hp's up right.)

I'm not entirely happy with my texture job and may go back and redo it if I ever feel motivated to.

The maces look like sloppily chipped stone balls with more-expertly chipped spikes, But who doesn't say people don't use stone maces once in a while? <.<

I Say you still did a good job , especially on that sword. I love the style.

Uhm... your maces look a little like morningstars... except I like the official morningstars better.

Ok, so I'm in the process of re-designing the mace but I can't really think of a good head for it. Tell me if you like the shape of this and the textures or if not what should be different.

Amazing work, Llew, though the edges of the mace seem a little undefined it's very encouraging to see you're learning so fast! Now for that pipe...
