My earlier post was a bit of a joke, but right now I would suggest the DDR2 type RAM right now because it's surprisingly cheap (WAY cheaper than DDR3, like hundreds of dollars cheaper). I don't really think tuning you RAM to your processors FSB should be that big of a deal though (although most processors now, like the dual cores, will run PC2 6400, although if you ram frequency is higher than the processors it should automatically compensate like RAM does, for instance if you have 1 stick of DDR2 800 and one DDR2 667 they will both run at the speed of the DDR2 667 without any problems, you just won't be achieving the full capabilities of some of the parts, be it a stick of ram or a bit of processing power. *shrug* RAM timings on the other hand should always be the same, to my knowledge, I've never tried combining RAM with different timings before, but I have been advised against it in the past. In most cases though it shouldn't be a problem finding the right RAM to go with your processor and the prices of the RAM in your processors category aren't going to be vastly different, so it's just more efficient to buy the right RAM the first time.
Edit for input on above hijacked question - I can normally change the install path to whatever I want it to be when I install a game, one of the first things it asks me is where I want it installed to and although I normally use the default I can change it to whatever I want it to be. Was yours not allowing you to do that?
