I've been playing EvE for a year and a bit and I've loved every moment of it. In fact if it wasn't for my appetite for rp I probably wouldn't have bothered playing Sundren instead of Eve!

Anyone else play EvE? What do you think of it?

I downloaded the trial some months ago... I like the idea of it, I played the classic Elite game when I was a kid and loved it, but the lack of interaction with others put me off... plus I think I was rubbish, and didnt want to start paying for it.

Yeap, been there, done that, got the scars. Gotta say its a seriously great game, it got me playing n' paying for 5/5 months, which is a considerably long while (for me) even though its an MMO and these usually get me bored very quickly. Sometimes it seemed too easy though, or maybe I just got lucky.

'Nyways, I say, if you're thinking about playing, go and give it a try, it has a 14-day trial anyways, and its enough to do quiiiiiite a lot (And can get you a feel of the gaming experience better than I could describe it).

I found it far too boring, especially the combat.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

I think I tried the trial of it before... it had a really long tutorial, after an hour I still haven't finished it so I removed it from my computer. Any game that requires a tutorial that long is more work then it is play and not worth the effort.

In order to enjoy EVE for social interaction you have to do more than the tutorial. You need to join a corporation of like minded individuals.

I'm an avid fan of Penny-Arcade comics and visit their forums frequently. They have an entire thread dedicated to this game, where they keep as much up to date news as they can on whats going on in the EVE Universe, plus they have a list of Corporations you can join depending upon your flavor.

If you're serious about getting into this game, and by chance are a Penny-Arcade fan, I suggest joining the forums and checking out that thread.

If not, start looking into corporations depending on what type of playstyle you like the most, as the possibilities in EVE are enormous.

There are Pirate Corporations, Anti-Pirate Corporations, Mining Corps, Deep Space(0.0 Sec[lawless space]) versions of all the of the above, or you MAKE your own if you're into the business aspects and such.

You can run the market, buy low and sell high, YADA YADA.

It can be an awesome game, and if I had a job(just graduated from school and am looking:P) I would probably play it still.

Pretty much said it all, but don't join any small-time/stupid corporation you see. Usually the big-time/serious corporations are the ones with the kinds of players that you'll probably enjoy talking to. For example, when I played went for combat, ended up working as security/escort for a corporation that focused on mining, manufacturing, and thus, trading as well, both the players and the job were fun... as... hell! Sure, I've seen miners defend themselves, but not -that- much.

Hell you can even own your own stations (I forgot the names of what excatly people called them, POS or something). If I remember correctly they can be used for many things, and some materials, such as hydrogen isotopes, can only be mined from moons if you have a station (IF I remember correctly, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong in that aspect.)

Though of course will take a while to get that far.

it's visually awesome...that's about it. I had fun playing but with the camping and lag it started to get really lame. Met some cool people though along with a lot of twinks. Couldn't stop the ISK farmers from evemailing me, that got tired quickly.

Sadly it's time/skill based so there's going to be hundreds of other players who just out class you because they were playing 3 years + and have all the cracked out mods on their ships.

So unless you go in with some friends, or know someone in BoB...the vastness of new eden is not very kind.

...oh Jita I shall not miss thee. *salutes*

                        I played EvE for ages.

Had to stop, high blood pressure and all.

There was something about shooting rocks to make money that didn't appeal to me....

Met some cool people, and that game was probably my first interaction with our friends from across the pond. I heard it has become a better game than since when I was playing (summer of 04).
