The real point missed is when they'll start asking for a subscription fee and then waste a ton of dev time to transform it into f2p 1 year later.
I don't understand why they keep repeating this mistake, it's just as if every time a new competitor emerges on the MMO market they feel entitled to think they're the next big thing.

The next big thing is really a repeat of the last several generations of thing, but with REALLY NEW GRAPHICS! and maybe physics.

        Awww thanks.

On Doubt's point about graphics, this is something that bothers me to no end. Yes, graphics matter. I bought an assload of games on GOG and I enjoy the hell out of them (I grew up on them!) but I do feel it jarring to see the old graphics. The flip side is, if you put a beautiful veneer on a piece of shit, all you have is a shit sandwich. I too am tired of games being visually stunning but hollow, dry, trite, or otherwise not worth playing. A game, like a movie, can only make up so much with great special effects.

This is my opinion on many next gen consoles games I have seen so far; they look nice but the trailers feel kinda flat.
I can't slow down, I can't hold back though you know I wish I could. No there ain't no rest for the wicked until we close our eyes for good!

Hell, I might even throw money after it on kickstarter.

Or we could ignite the old spark about petitioning Bugsidian to release the source code...
I don't think there's any realistic chance of the source code to NWN2 or NWN engines, the huge wranglings over simply being able to sell the game and it's expansions should be an indicator of the mangled mess that are the IP rights of this game.

Fortunately there are a bucket load of free or cheap game engines and tool kits out there ready for anyone who's feeling DEVy that could potentially put together something as good if not much better than NWN2, depending on your eventual aim you may not need to pay anything at all toward it!

Sadly the highway to gamedom is littered with the countless skeletons of failed projects, putting together a team to create a game essentially from scratch is a hard task, let alone keeping everyone committed to the task.

Elder Scrolls Online just makes me sad. It sounded great but then, seeing the MMO turds beneath the gravy, I just died a little.

I play RPG's for the immersion. That's what I love most. When a game draws you into it's little world, with all the details, and the sense that you're having an effect on it.

That's partly why I still play NWN2, most PW's feel like independent games, that just share similar/same mechanics. You have this painstakingly crafted world with a metric fuckton of detail, and the other players are drawn in too, to the point where it's seamless.

And then you go play Warcraft and some asshat runs by with a derpy name and spewing some kind of derpbabble.

So, I dunno if I'd risk ESO. I'll probably just wait until I see someone else play it, and see what it's like, and probably be disappointed. And wait for Fallout 4.

I'm really hoping though, that Bethesda doesn't stop the singleplayer Elder Scrolls Games, because that by far, is some of their best work.

I'm not really looking for an MMO. I want a persistent world. That's how I am. I'd rather carve out an environment then try to fit in someone else's.

Kasso/Kay told me about the EQ Next, thing and it looks pretty promising.

                  Agreed.

I've been playing MMOs since Everquest, and I've never even heard of persistent worlds until my brother told me about them. He told me about Sundren and I've loved it ever since.

The fact that I can actually pick my own path is quite amazing AND I can actually change the world around me. I've created enemies, allies, and Helm only knows what else! It's quite refreshing to experience and I love everything minute of it.

Hopefully, Everquest Next might break up the static-ness that is typical in most MMOs. We'll see.

                  Merin Millhouse - Local minstrel
Rubert Renin - Wizard of little note
Barathos Daneer - Ranger of the Viridale.
