Windows 8 is probably going to tbe the final straw that pushes me from the window platform. The alternative seems to be Linux Mint 14 with Cinnamon and CrossOver XI for easily running windows apps using WINE. And a VM with Windows XP for anything that can't be run using CrossOver XI. (Like the NWN2 Toolset) Still got my eye on Steam support for Linux, but it isn't there yet.

I thought there was a registry value you could set to get classic start menu back.

Oh cool, they took it out after the developer release. Fucking microsoft.

I'm not getting windows 8, Windows 9 will be the win. It's classic for microsoft to fuck up every other windows release.

      3.11 good
      95 shit
      98 decent
      2000 shit
      XP great
      Vista shit
      Windows 7 great
      Windows 8 shit
      Windows 9?

History repeats I bet. They watch the market, see how badly their new design is adopted and will accomodate. They do a trial and error marketing scheme and that's why every other one is crap.

Well. About to find out. Bought a bad ass laptop on black Friday and it will show up pre-loaded with 8.

Other than the stupid little splash page at the beginning... and the lack of a start button (which I hardly ever used anyway - icon's on the desktop for me thanks) I don't mind it. It loads WAY faster than Vista did for me and I haven't had many problems that weren't there before the upgrade (I think one of my memory sticks has been tweeky since i bought it a few years ago)

No they disabled the reg tweak, you need a replacement mod like Start8 from Stardock which for me is great, exactly like Windows 7.

UI aside? I got no issues with Win8. And even those UI issues are again resolved with the start menu mod for me.

Also going to call bullshit, Windows 2000 was not a bad release. It was the same kernel as XP lol... It was ME that bombed. I still see systems in the wild running windows 2000, it's solid.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

True that, it just runs very very slow by todays massivly impatient standards, I always found it to be a very stable system compared to the 9x's
