Happy Windows 8 day!
While some may moan about Metro (including me) there is one quality of life improvement that completely does away with this problem.
http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/
With this handy install, Windows 8 becomes a leaner, meaner Windows 7 with all the familiarity we enjoy.
Until January there is a promotion right now, you can get Windows 8 Pro for $14.99 if you own Windows XP/Vista/7!
Go here. http://www.windowsupgradeoffer.com/
Select your country, fill out fake information like you just bought a new PC last week. It will email you a promo code.
Go here. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/buy
Download the upgrade assistant (click to buy Windows 8 Pro).
It will check your PC for compatibility etc, you may have to tell it you only want to keep your personal files for it to present you with the offer. When it goes to purchase, enter in the promo code emailed to you. After you purchase it, it should download the media so you can either do an in-place upgrade or fresh install.
Although I haven't got the email yet, there is a Media Centre pack for those who used Windows Media Centre with their TV, right now Microsoft is offering it for free, but it will become a chargable add-on.
To register for a free copy of Media Centre go here. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w.../feature-packs
Enjoy!
