  • Favorite Forgotten Realms character? :)

Thought we'd have a little discussion about the "who's best likes" and who influences our characters Mine would be Artemis Entreri, from the later Drizzt books.

Superb character, and so far the only one really keeping up with Drizzt in close Melee.
I love that he worked his way from a lowly thug in Mirabar to the feared fighter/rogue he is today

I dislike Forgotten Realms books that aren't resources, no offense.

Perhaps I should try reading something not made by Greenwood, he really killed any desire for me.

I've read all the books in the Drizzt series up so far, never got into the Elminster ones because I found them rather dull ^_^
The books have always been a "beacon" of sorts when I make characters, and it keeps me adventure interested :P

I have the Dark Elf trilogy and Paths of darkness on the shelves at home, R.A. Salvatore writes really well

Well I liked the Avatar Series (3+1+1 books). I think if you choose to read only one book from FR novels, that is the series you should read. It has so many of the current gods as mortals before they became gods. As to which character I liked best of them, Cyric or Kelemvor.

I generally avoid these kinds of fiction like the plague, but saw some reviews that recommended Elaine Cunningham's Evermeet: Island of Elves and decided to pick it up for some background ideas and to do homework on the elven group/envoy etc... it's actually pretty good, kind of a lesser version of The Silmarillion by Tolkien.

I've read one Drizzt short story; it was fairly interesting.
PC - Corwin Eska'las (Sun Elf pursuing the dream of becoming a Bladesinger)

Alt PC - Brevin Smoothands (meticulously groomed half orc bard swashbuckler... sort of... sings great, less fighting)

The Dark Elf trilogy, which chronicles the youth of Drizzt and his years in the Underdark, is actually not terribly bad. It is near the end of that trilogy and in the Icewind Dale series that things started to go downhill.

My favorate has to be the very first series I read about Forgotten Realms: Daughter of the Drow. It was my first introduction to the world, drow, and Eilistraee and I have been in love ever since.

There are plenty in this setting that have had stories that were just as good, maybe even better, but that one will always be special to me. *cue the sappy music*

"Men fear thought as they fear nothing else on earth -- more than ruin -- more even than death.... Thought is subversive and revolutionary, destructive and terrible, thought is merciless to privilege, established institutions, and comfortable habit. Thought looks into the pit of hell and is not afraid. Thought is great and swift and free, the light of the world, and the chief glory of man."

I'm with Ethereal Edge The story books can go way overboard and there's few things as annoying as a player wanting to do something "because they read that story where race/class/whatever could do this or that" Plus, Dragonlance books are generally way better (even if I prefer Forgotten Realms as a setting to play in)

Cadderly from the Cleric Quintet, lesser known series by R. A. Salvatore, author of Drizzt fame.

He just seems to be a more "normal" character and is easier to relate to.
Plus, I have a thing for characters that have to grapple with issues of faith, family, and conscience.
Thom Grinwell: A man lost in the world and inside his own mind.
                    ------------------------------------------------
Avatar is a pretty good indication of what Thom looks like on a bad day.

After meeting Ed Greenwood I'd have to say the Elminster is my favorite. The man cannot write well, but man he is a great story teller.

I don't know much about FR though, as I've always loved the Dragonlance books better.

Just out of curiousity, what made you play a Forgotten Realms based world if you dislike the FR? And disliking Ed Greenwood? I don't think we can ever be friends now, sadly.
