Warhammer 40k

So I know that we have some Warhammer fanatics in the community... I guess I will step up here. Though my friends make fun of me for playing! XD

That aside, I field a Necrons, Black Legion - Chaos Space Marines, and a Grey Knights army. I also collect a few other small models here and there. In addition, I am a big fan of the Dawn of War series for the computer.

40k was never my thing and im losing intrest in warhammer now days, still there are a hell of a lot of difrent rules and such out there that 90% of all wargamers dont know about becose there not true wargamers and GW is very tight lipped about other existing.

Yes, thanks! I Invested incredible amounts of time into these babies, been playing and painting for 6 years.

And if you want to take on the might of Black Legion Kaizen, you best come prepared! XD

Oh ... you need DULLCOAT PRIMER. The models are too shiny.


It's a nice after paint spray that tones down the glare/gloss/shiny/kindofsparklyandgirl effect. It's excellent, and really sets that grim tone.

Well, I used gloss varnish to give certain looks to a model. For example, on the deamon prince, his armor has been warped to his skin from his exposure to the warp. If I apply a light gloss coat, its going to give the model a shiny look and replicate the almost wet/slimy feel that we want for his skin. On the other hand the Nightbringer will need a heavy gloss varnish to give it a much more metallic look because he is practically living metal. In some instances you will not want a glossy look for certain pieces of metal and clothing. Applying an ink wash can also give you an EXCELLENT grimy look, but only if you water it down correctly, which is dependent on variables of color preservation and paint fluidity.

These are also a close up look, from a good viewing distance the glare/gloss/shiny/kindofsparklyandgirl effect looks pretty good in my opinion. I have not used a dullcoat primer as a finisher. Of course what is best about painting your troops is that you can do it in any style you wish!

Yeah, i made my space wolves black and gold (looked more like chaos space marine style) rather than the color they are technically supposed to be painted and personally i think they look much cooler.

If you want to get a realy cool, wet and slimey look, try some stuff called perma-wet. I use it on my facial prosthetic appliances for some costumes and it dries to a seriously wet look. It is the same stuff they use on Predator masks and lots of wound appliances to make them look wet and gooey even after they dry. It's kinda tough to find and a little expensive, but the look is wonderful.

I either get mine at MonsterMakers or FX warehouse...can't really remember which, but I am pretty sure MM is the one. www.monstermakers.com.
