Hey Uri, you should know your fellow males better than this

Definately not the only one Uri...

I really must go see this film so I can insult it some more...

At the moment all I've got to go on are genericly furry blue native americans, race traitors, and the general feeling that if the Taliban were to wear fur suits they'd somehow be accepted...

Well... saw it. My expectations were met.

Plot: extreemely see-through (though I suppose well executed at that, caught myself being pulled in)

        Visuals: Fantasmic.

Main rub: 6 appendages and 4 eyes on non-humanoids, 4 and 2 on humanoids. Evolution be damned. But yeah. People looked at me weird for pointing it out.

        Must see in 3D.

But that means that Cameron will take your gold anyway. Don't waste your time and money on a film that you don't like

Well, hopefully I'll see it tomorrow, not expecting much.

It's a shame that Sci-Fi is often seen as needing no plot, just pretty visuals. - It's a pretty insulting premise really, the great meadia machine thinks you, and all your friends, are incapable of appreciating, or even understanding, anything that involves politics, social dynamics.

I suppose I shouldn't be to suprised, after all Cameron hardly broke out of pantomime plots with his last blockbuster epic, so why try tacking on anything with a sci-fi film?

Just for once, I'd like the concept of 'Epic Storytelling' to involve a reasonable story.

As for visuals.. Go watch Jurrassic Park, the 3 newer Star Wars films, Indiana Jones and the tiresome flogging of a dead horse (or whatever it was called).. That's how much impact those visuals will have - They get older quicker than having the extended family around for christmas.

It's hardly an epic film, hardly a return to form.. It's kind of like a drunken one night stand; at the time it's all lovely explosions, good looking and nubile.. But you know full well that when time (and sobriety) rolls you'll realise you had nothing in common personality wise and the looks you went for are fading rapidly.

            Edit:

I have no intention of paying to see it, plus, it's getting hard to insult something when I've only read books and reviews on it

Meh, sometimes I WANT cheap food, plot wise. Sometimes I go to the movies so I can shut off my brain for a bit and gape at the sights.

              It worked

Saw it in 3D. Those of us that went discussed this a bit. Some said that the 3D wasn't all that impressive. Someone else suggested that it was like that purposefully. Used strictly for enhancement much more so than SHOCK AND AWE! I don't think those that miss seeing it in 3D will lose a whole lot but overall I'd say that you'd be missing out to not see it on the big screen + 3D at least once. iMax [rant]NO NOT THOSE FUCKING PSUEDO-MAX OMG OUR SCREEN IS 1.3% BIGGER THAN A REAL iMAX POS THEATRES. STOP GOING TO THOSE THINGS AND MAYBE THEY'LL PUT IN A REALiMAX!!! [/rant] would be your best bet.

A friend of mine told me that someones' already made a religon about the Na'Vi and that there are LARPers for Avatar already. he told me all this less than half a week after its release.

=O That tells you how crazy awesome it is =P. The way the movie progressed, I felt like I was playing one of Bioware's RPGs like KOTOR or something. But better. XD.

If that serves to say how awesome it was... well I'm not sure how I can describe it any better XD

Someones made a religion out of what those Faeries believe in? We all know that Nexus is the equivalent of the devil... oh... right, this was supposed to be more of an original plot .

Yes, the visuals were good, and the 3d was enhancing, but not really used a lot (honestly the most astounding 3d thing I saw in the movie that night was the cow for the Milk Commercial right before hand ); the rest was nice to see however, especially the stuff like the foliage and ash and whatnot.

But all in all, it felt like a Fern Gully on steroids with a bad attitude to me for the plot. If you haven't seen Fern Gully, go see it... Robin Williams did a better a better job as a flying mount than the nasty pterodactyls (:P).

I'm not saying I didn't like it, but after all the praise I went in expecting the worst (see Highlander 2) and I was pleasantly surprised. Call me whacky, but I still like the old movies better, when the plot and acting were more important than what things looked like.

*necros the thread after losing three hours of his life to the film*

Officially the biggest waste of special effects ever seen. Boring, preachy, and condescending while simultaneously being immensely shallow. Bad script full of hackneyed cliches and painful dialogue. Beautifully rendered graphics of uninteresting designs. Why do people keep giving James Cameron all that money? He even has some of mine now *cries*

Hee hee... that reminds me of Chris Griffons comment about Kevin Costner ...

And I don't see what you couldn't love about giant militaristic Smurfs taking over the place of all the Faeries in Fern Gully!

                            Smurfs?

This was the most work safe of the lot!

I agree though, beyond a thin veneer of technology the film was utter tripe.
