  • SoZ classes?

Howdy, folks. I played on Sundren for a little while a long while ago. I was thinking of trying Sundren out again for two reasons:

    1. SoZ has been added in
    2. I am looking for a bit more rp than on the current server I play on

I was wondering: can I make a swashbuckler? Is it restricted? One of the reasons I left way back was that my favorite class (warlock) was restricted.
This is the best signature I could think of.

Well warlock is still restricted but Swashbuckler isn't.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

        warlocks suck anyway :P...just kidding.

I think hellfire is restricted (need warlock anyway) and doomguide is also a class requiring Dm/staff aproval.

Plus check the wiki link on the top of the web page its UBER useful.

I don't think Doomguide will be a big deal. Unlike Stormlord where you can choose it regardless if your deity is Talos, Doomguide requires Kelemvor in order to put a level into it. Perhaps needing DM assistance to setup the event of becoming a Doomguide, but the class is kind of like the Harper Agent class, where the person going for it out of the RP anyway.

EDIT: If anything other than Hellfire Warlock should be restricted, its the Heritage Feats. They are pseudo-subraces in a way, and its possible you could have too many of each running around.

Stormlord does require one to follow Talos here, it has been altered for Sundren to make sense. That PRC, the Icefury of Auril, the Dreadmaster of Bane and now the Doomguide all require a deity to choose as well as DM approval. While the Doomguide does walk a narrow street, it's still a divine caster and those are almost always already quite strong even without their specialties kicking in. Sure, it might not be as strong a class as a favored soul or cleric, but as with the darkwood stalker and orcs, undead are a very common enemy in the Forgotten Realms.

Heritage feats and dinosaur companions are ready for restriction if need be. If they become too common, all it takes is a small client-side update to make them DM granted rather than chooseable.

No I have to reconsider my crazy hin wiard with Fey background feats -- everyone and there dinosaur will probably have those two backgrounds soon...

How could a pirate ninja wizard work? most of those terms are mutually exclusive!
How can you be an up front intimidating pirate if your an invisible spell slinging stealth assassin? Something about that isnt right!

Anyways I miss my Swashbuckler/Magelord & my Shugenja Mystic Theurge from PnP! Its more annoying that they promised MT in NWN2... two expansions later annnnnd nothing!

In some ways, I think Doomguide is actually stronger than a pure cleric. You use a lesser hit dice true and their only strong save is will, rather than fort and will. However, bonus saves vs. death and level drain somewhat make up for that. Plus, there is the fact that they have normal spell progression AND full base attack. They also get to keep their turn undead progression. Basically, you are sacrificing 2hp a lvl and some fort saves and getting in return full base attack, free use of exotic weapons, killer anti-undead abilities, immunity to death and level drain, and the ability to help protect others against such.

To me though the most alluring element of the class is not so much the abilities, but rather the story aspects. I have always entertained the idea of making a cleric of Kelemvor, whose order intrigued me. I admit that Doomguide was a strange choice for a new class (If they wanted to chose to specialty priest Mask, Sune, Lathander, or Malar seemed like more likely choices). However, for me personally it turned out to be great as I was thinking about doing this anyway.

As for the swashbuckler, EXCELLENT choice. They opened up a lot of new potential builds with this class. And now the duelist can actually be built to be fairly strong.

I think the Specialties of Clerics in the FR setting is great because it shows a diversity between faiths. Doomguide does fit into the NWN2 library too, because of events in MotB, its just an expansion late. For SoZ, Goldeye would have been the class to include, since Waukeen has a strong presence in the campaign.

As for the Swashbuckler, I think the duelist could be fairly strong before this base class, but it can be a strong variation. Swashbuckler/Wizard/Eldritch Knight is very strong as well.

Aside from Mystice Theurge (I say this again), I perhaps would have liked to see other speciality priests like they had in Icewind Dale 2!
Most people like Lathander clerics so the Morninglord or Dawnbringer would have be good, Ilmater's painbearers and painbringers are good class for priest and paladin respectively as well!

As for the currently open Swashbuckler class, I agree with Silas: an excellent choice!

Quick question: When my swashbuckler arrived at Port Avantyr, the ship was invisible. Is that a current situation relate to SoZ, or did something go wrong with the Sundren Updater?

Both of my Override folders are empty.

                          Tanks!

Its a problem that needs addressing I believe, happened to me when I made Malik!
You can still get off the invisible boat by following to the pier..

Starting scene doesnt work either which is being sorted I think
