    Halflings

Reason: My answer is two fold. First, my old school love of Hobbits and their kicked-back, eating, drinking, partying, relax-in-the-grass-at-sunset life style has always appealed to me. Mix it with the updated race of Halflings, being quick, dexteritous, easy-to-get-along, good natured, athletic, and close knit in community also appeals to me.

My favorite race are elves, for their dexterity and lithe grace. More specifically, however, would be Wild-Elves. Nomadic in some sense. A desert Wild Elf would be my ideal thing.... Which I do plan on playing.

Gotta say I'm coming down in the Elf camp too.

              1) Their back history - theres lots of it. Thousands of years of it infact and that makesfor extremely god plot

              2) Their background - Sounds a lot like history but it's not. When you play an elf you have got so many hints and tips and suchtorefer to you can realy get into a character.

              3) They aren't human. I'm human 24/7... Well OK... Mostly human 24/7. Why would I want to play one in a fantasy setting. Boring!

              4) There are a lot of other people out there who feel exactly the same about elves which means you can develop a community. Which again makes for great role playing
Heed me thou who are darker than dusk.
Heed me thou more red than blood.
Through the passing of the mists of time I call to thee, swear myself to thee.
Let thy great power be known to all the fools who stand opposed
Merge your strength and mine! Deliver doom to all of them equally....

Elves...the reason why someone chooses a specific race i think has STRONGLY to do with his personality in real life. This "rule" is also for class choosing, there its much more obvious i think. Of course i dont mean that a halfling rongue is short thief in his real life.I mean deeper. The way someone understands society and life...anyway

I like good aligment Elves or sometimes half-elves for all the reason stated in the above posts. Good, Sophisticated, Lore , "Mysticism", tons of History etcetc

                  Either Human or Fire Genasi.

Human because I can relate lol.
Fire genasi because they're freakin' awesome.

I don't really play any other races.

                    I'd have to say Drow.

I too enjoy their background and think it's quite interesting at the varying additudes of them, some are undeniably evil, others are more around the ruthless catagory. And of course there's a few 'neutral to good' to spice things up.

I've always been drawn to dark elfs in popular fantasy fiction, no real clue as to why exactly. I just enjoy them more than most races. My only problem with Drow in NWN (and D&D by extention) is that they take some massive penalities to leveling for dubious initial racial gains. Of course there's also the PW problem of people always hating you... but hey that's the cost of being beautiful.

My favorites are humans, strongheart halflings, tieflings, shield dwarves, moon elves. It's way too hard for me to decide between those.
Elriel Freyja: Child moon elf ranger that can't keep herself out of trouble
Caindy Blake: Human fighter with a limp in her step

                        Gnomes!!

                        1) Gnomes would rather hide their entire population, above or under ground, than fight the many wars that have ravaged Faerun. I like their knack for avoiding attention...

                        2) Gnomes always see ten steps ahead than anyone else with their vivid imagination and curiosity, making them great in any cerebral role like inventing devices or researching new spells.

                        3) They love wood animals and generally respect nature. Yay!

                        4) Over where I live, we have a saying that can be roughly translated in english to : "In the smallest pots are the best ointments." :P

From an RP aspect, dwarves and gnomes imo are the most fun.
In game? all the gensai just look mighty.

I love Moon Elf, no constrictive reasons I think; just the looks, the typical nature of the race.

Why Moon Elf? I just loved the typical Elf during the time when I first started playing Baldur's Gate, then as many RPGs developed, there are more and more subrace, so I just sticking with what I liked at first in 1998.

Otherwise, there is nothing wrong with Human.

                              Dwarves and gnomes.

The dwarves for their comraderie and fighting spirit, getting drunk, their culture and craft and all that. Read Salvatores Hunters Blade trilogy for the 'dwarfness' in it, just skip the boring bits of Drizzle.

Gnomes.. inventive, mad, eccentric, funny.. and a bit like dwarves.
