  • Insightful Strike + Unarmed?

Anyone know if Insightful Strike (3rd level swashbuckler ability) works with unarmed? Unarmed attacks DO work with weapon finese.

Just checked, yes, it seems that the damage is applied added to unarmed strike.

If you could merge Ice Fury, Swashbuckler & Monk.. Well... Silliness.

You could merge sacred fist... which is what I was going for. Druid / Swash / SF / IF, possibly. I was really trying to come up with a speed of foot build, not a powerbuild though. Anyway, thanks

            That could work as well

I always fancied playing a pugalist - Not a martial artist, but a bar-room brawler, braggard and thug - Specialist weapon: Broken Bottle, or fists.

Day job of being a Hod carrier, butcher or something.

Yeah a brawler class would be loads of fun, though I suspect forcing fists into the lawful alignment arena has something to do with balancing the classes.

I am not sure balance had any thing to do with Monks being Lawful, as another DM (GBX?) spoke about how thieves could be Lawful if they followed strict guild rules and a hierarchy. Monks are Lawful for the same reason, strict self discipline and a rigid temple hierarchy, which is why you can get Sun Soul monks who worship Selune, a Chaotic deitiy.

When a brawler class/PrC was first brought up I did not think it such a great idea either. However, if you force them in to Chaotic, and limit the damage they do with fists to some where between a ordinary person and a Monk, loose all the speciality Monk feats and replace them with a brawlers subset... Dirty Rat, Dodge, "improvised weapon", "low blow" (for a chance to stun), "drunken bonus"(if they start fighting while drunk)... Force an armour restriction on them, none or light, no shield. Heck it could be the only PrC you could take at first level as the only real prerequisite is the ability to get drunk/stoned or otherwise wasted.

Not suggesting it should be done, just how it could be.

As Gbbishop said in http://www.sundren.org/forum/showthr...t=11953&page=8 the reaping mauler would fit the bill admirably. The drunken master from 3E is also a similar breed that specialises in intoxicated improvised bar brawling

Isn't there a Brawler basic class or prc in the PnP? What kind of specs do they have?

Not really. You could always make your own homebrew rules as a DM of course!

I played on a server that actually had a brawler class. It pretty much had the same fist progression as monk. Damage and adamintine. But they got a bonus feat like a fighter every four levels. They get heavy armor profeciency, though, take penalties for using a shield I beleive. Or get a bonus for it. I can't really remember...
