  • Drug system now implemented!

    Hey folks,

After a lot of testing and development (thanks to all those who helped beta-test) I would like to take the time to announce that Sundren's Persistent Drug system is now live and working!

It has been the product of many months of testing off and on but I'm finally happy with the finished product. Currently there are four drugs to choose from, and I plan on adding more in the near future. Sundren's drug system is directly modeled from the Book of Vile Darkness and follows this complex ruleset very carefully.

Sundren's drug system (from hereon known as the affliction system, which shall eventually encompass more than drugs) has benefits and consequences, both of which you shall discover if your character happens to pick up some bad habits!

Different drugs have different benefits, some might actually improve your prowess in combat, your magical casting ability, perhaps your sense of awareness. But becoming addicted will also depend on how vicious the drug is... going without a dose for a day can give rise to withdrawal symptoms while taking more than one dose in a day of certain drugs can cause overdose!

Where might one find said items? Perhaps in a shadowed alley, or from the right purveyor of alchemical goods. I highly encourage anyone trying out the system to offer feedback to help improve the user experience.

    Thanks and uhh... happy dosing!

So...does that mean I can make a Cleric and open a rehab clinic?

On a more serious note, before (couple of months ago), the addiction status didn't seem to a character and there was no overdose. Out of curiousity, did you add something that gives an affect for being under the influence of two (or more) different substances?

The drug effects of multiple drugs combine, but that is it.

This calls for new, completely made up cleric spells. Remove Addiction, Greater Remove Addiction (for multiple addictions), and Wall of Greater Remove Addiction. Just place the last one in the doorway leading out of your favorite crack house, and you'll get the high without the addiction!

Actually the spells Heal, Remove Disease, Lesser Restore, Restore, and Greater Restore all interact with drug withdrawl and addiction in different ways, some can cure addiction, others just the negative effects... Some both.

Leck will most certainly have to become addicted to something smokable for his pipe, is the Thayan dust counted?

I believe Dust was under the old system and still needs to be updated now to fit in with the other ones.

Glad to see the Drug system working well now, Saulus. Although now I'll probably go back to having perpetual bad stats from the addictions, dang!

Could this open a whole new avenue for the drug trade. Such as quests and such for the transportation and sale of certain illecit narcotics?

You bet! In fact I've been speaking with a new team member who is a personal friend of mine in real life and we will very likely be exploring the possibility of drug-induced quests that perhaps never happened... or did they?

But hey in the interim there is already a player-driven drug trade going on right now.

I hope the drugs are potent enough to actually aid the characters, instead of just being there for colour. But this is great, it goes perfectly with some of my character concepts. Huzzah!
