I'm constantly thinking ahead for upgrades for Sundren. One thing I have been thinking about a lot lately is the need for a completely seperate development and testing server.
With one, it would save players, and the staff especially, a lot of headaches. It also allow us to build and test things faster without ever needing to interrupt the live server.
I've already went ahead and ordered this new server after getting a very good deal from a friend. These things can go for $1500 easily... My total cost is $820 dollars and I should get it in a week or so. Here are the specs:
IBM X Series 236
Dual 2.8 GHZ Intel Xeon
2.5GB ECC Memory
6 x 36GB SCSI drives
2 x Power Supplies and Rails
Again this is an amazing deal and this server is actually superior to the current one we are operating on now. With it I can run in a virtualization environment, meaning I can run multiple server Operating systems at once. This will become the new (and improved) live server, while the current will be then used for testing. Here is a website that shows the system I'm talking about.
Thanks and Happy RPing
