• A new dawn for the city of Sundren

The spear of the Black Hand attack stalled, the valiant warriors of the Legion and its allies rode the tidal wave of death approaching.

Those who saw the climatic event spoke of how the Triumvirate Champion, Darius Blackwell faced off against Bane's Chosen. The duel preceded the battle but was to set the stage for what came next.

Just when it appeared Golias, the Blackguard Champion might be gaining the upper hand... an arrow hit his chest... then another, and another. The one came to be known as the "Faerie Queen", Maia attacked the Dread Lord.

Both sides of each force looked on as the clouds darkened overhead, and a mighty crackle streaked from across the sky. Lightning, red as hellfire came from the clouds and struck down the interrupter of the duel, leaving her as another casualty where already so many have been lost.

Battered and beaten, Golias fell under Darius' sword, riddled with arrows and unable to counter any moves.

Rage. The Triumvirate cursed the interruption of a fight with some semblance of honor. The Banites became enraged, denied even a fair fight from the 'honorable' Triumvirate.

Moments later the clash continued, the forces of good and evil locked in battle. Endless waves of undead continued, risen by powerful dark priests and clerics alike. Even they were nothing in comparison to the awesome power of the demon allies of Bane, bringing hellfire and death in their wake.

Then; just as all was thought nearly lost -- the great Bronze Dragon Ixisitraz flew overhead, landing to stem the tide of the dark forces. With this extra time, the main forces of the Legion retreated.

Ixisitraz, after speaking with the leaders on the battlefield returns to the city, ready to aid the Hands of Mundus in their final great trial.

Moments later lights came streaking into the sky from the city, and a sundering from which no one has ever seen the likes of began. The entire valley rumbled for what seemed like minutes... few could muster the strength to even stand, let alone kneel in the process.

All over Sundren people beheld the great spectacle -- the city itself lifting with the foundations of the earth into the sky... massive pillars jutting up from each district -- no doubt the Sundrite devices worked on by the hands so carefully for so many months.

As the city takes its position over the valley, many questions begin to appear... who won? What is the fate of those left behind? What plans do the Black Hand have now?

How does one reach the city, who does not possess wings?!

Of all these and so many more, one thing is certain: The city is safe.

[Massive thanks again to everyone who showed up in the events, and to those who could not make it, there will be a ceremony to come and other follow-up events to participate in. If you weren't there feel free to RP the events as transcribed.

Big shout-out to all the DMs, Polt/GD especially who took the lead on this event!! Also, thanks to everyone who helped develop the update, especially Tupoun who has been bringing to life our vision with his modelling and mapping skills, and Maevan as always, our eternal pro mapper, whose areas we spend most of our time in! .. finally GBX, because while you don't see it all, under the hood he's done some amazing things for loot and other systems!]
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

New Class!
Morninglord of Lathander
The Church of Lathander is well known and highly respected across Faerûn. A large part of that respect comes from Lathander’s elite priests, who are known as the morninglords. Morninglords are, in many ways, the epitome of the classical cleric archetype—they are kindly healers and advisors, stalwart protectors, and implacable foes of the undead. Because morninglords believe it is their duty to bring Lathander’s light to all the dark places of the world, they often travel the breadth of Faerûn, preaching the glories of their god to any who will listen and smiting his foes wherever they appear.

Paladins of Lathander can freely multiclass as morninglords of Lathander.

Alignment: Any good

Feats: Improved Turning

Skills: Diplomacy 7 ranks, Knowledge (religion) 8 ranks, Perform 2 ranks

Spellcasting: Able to cast 3rd-level divine spells.

Special: Must worship Lathander as a deity.

Class Features:

- Hit Die: d8

- Base Attack Bonus: Medium.

- High Saves: Will.

- Weapon and Armor Proficiencies: Morninglords of Lathander gain no proficiency with any weapon, armor, or shield.

- Skill Points: 2 + Int Modifier.

- Class Skills: Concentration, Craft, Diplomacy, Heal, Knowledge (arcana), Knowledge (history), Knowledge (the planes), Knowledge (religion), Perform, Profession, Spellcraft

- Spells per Day/Spells Known: When a new morninglord of Lathander level is gained, the character gains new spells per day (and spells known, if applicable) as if she had also gained a level in whatever divine spellcasting class granted her access to 3rd-level spells before she added the prestige class. She does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (level-dependent domain abilities, etc.), except for an increased effective level of spellcasting. If a character had more than one divine spellcasting class that granted access to 3rd-level spells before she became a morninglord of Lathander, she must decide to which class she adds each level of morninglord for the purpose of determining spells per day and spells known.

- Bane of the Restless: The character’s morninglord of Lathander levels stack with her levels in any other class that grants the ability to turn undead for the purpose of turning
attempts.

- Lathander's Light: Whenever a morninglord casts a spell with the light descriptor, its area is doubled.

- Creative Fire: Morninglords are creative, expressive people, much like their god. At 2nd level, the character gains a bonus equal to her morninglord of Lathander level on all Craft and Perform checks.

- Daylight: At 3rd level, the morninglord of Lathander may use daylight once per day (caster level equals morninglord of Lathander’s divine caster level).

- Searing Ray: A 4th level, a morninglord of Lathander may use searing ray once per day (caster level equals morninglord of Lathander’s divine caster level). If this ability is used against undead, the damage increases as if the Empower Spell feat had been applied.

- Greater Turning: Once per day, a morninglord of at least 5th level may use greater turning. A greater turning is like a normal turning except that the undead creatures that would be turned are destroyed instead. At 9th level, she may use this ability twice per day.

- Blessing of the Dawn: The sight of the morning sun is an inspirational vision for all morninglords. Beginning at 6th level, a morninglord of Lathander gains a +2 morale bonus on Will saves from sunrise until noon. This ability is in effect only while she can see the sun; the effect is suppressed any time she is deprived of the sight of it during this period.

- Maximize Turning: Once per day, a morninglord of at least 7th level can automatically achieve the maximum possible result on a turning damage roll.

- Rejuvenation of the Morn: Dawn is a powerful symbol of rebirth and renewal. Every morning, while at the height of his strength, Lathander renews the vitality of his morninglords and affects them as if by a Greater Restoration spell.

- Aura of Radiance: When the morninglord of Lathander reaches 10th level, the light of Lathander shines perpetually upon her. No matter how dark it is, the morninglord sees as though the conditions were identical to the outdoors at sunrise. This ability functions like darkvision out to 60 feet, except that the morninglord sees in color. The morninglord also gains a +2 sacred bonus on saving throws against spells with the darkness descriptor and a +2 sacred bonus to Armor Class against attacks from undead creatures.
Daylight and Rejuvenation of the Morn are not yet implemented.

All players involved in the Second Sundering Events!
There will be reward ceremonies throughout the next two weeks, recognizing your character's contributions to the various factions. In order to ensure no one is left out, please send me a PM with the subject "Second Sundering Achievements" and tell me, in an ooc manner, what your character(s) did and for whom. Please be concise, I'm going to have to read a lot of these!

Question: Are 'Second Sundering Events' restricted to the events that have taken place this weekend (23rd to the 27th), or does it include events before as well that precluded, and would have contributed to it's eventual setup, and how long ago would that entail?

i also had a question about the class changes. would the changes to the noted classes above be retroactive to current PCs? will they only take affect after leveling? or will they only work with new PCs?

If you have any of the classes that have been changed after the update, speak with a DM in game and we will try to fix you when we are free.

Bump! Alyrian / Leithian has done a lot over the last few months, but played a smaller role in this past weekend's battles.

I'm mostly concerned with the weekend battles, but if you want to do a short paragraph on anything earlier, that's also fine.

I was wondering if there were any plans on giving the Monk class a little buff? I'd be interested in making a pure monk but right now it's just hard to find incentive for it and make it work at the same time.

Couple of questions:

- Does Bane of the Restless only increase the level of the turning attempt, or does it also increase the number of attempts you get as you level?

- Do spellcasting feats like Spellcasting Prodigy and Focus in a particular school affect the feats that cast Daylight, Searing Ray, etc.?

Thanks

Monks do not need a buff. They are an incredibly self-sufficient class that has solid damage output, high saves, good ac, and innate spell resistance. Heck, even Pathfinder didn't really change them. They knew the monk was already pretty solid.
Tigen Amastacia: Died in events so you didn't have to.

Quintin Ulsteris: Nice-guy Legion engineer, deceased son of House Ulsteris.

As someone who occassionally plays a 20th Sacred Fist... I have to agree with Torgar. Pure monks are real forces of nature. They need no adjusting to be relevant in Sundren. I would recommend giving a bit of consideration to your background. RP'ing a monk is fun if you pick the right monestary/deity in your background.

Cheers!

I put most of the class changes up in the wiki... some still need to be modified a bit because I don't know what class skills fighters get now, and what pathfinder stuff (aura's) are to give a description.
