Looks pretty sweet. Looking forward to the exploration exp

On a related note, any chance these massive loads of updates will include fixing/overhauling the crafting system? I feel like it's been overlooked for far too long, and I'm afraid that it will just get lost in the flow of new content.

I won't lie to anyone, crafting is far from a priority. There are many other things that rank far higher mostly due to the fact that some people may never even touch crafting.

That's just the reality, if that isn't enough for die hard crafters that's unfortunate.

      It will come eventually.

The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

Well, honestly, if the faction and public items were not of the aesthetic quality of Mad Max it may be less a priority.

Can people who took the crafting feats who are completely unsatisfied with the unfinished system have those feats replaced, then?
            Active
Reinamar Stormseeker - The bladestorm that must turn back the wind. Arkerym of The People, practitioner of the forgotten art, pariah.

Eirimil Gaelazair (Dead)- Bitter. Caustic. Abrasive. Egocentric. Probably right. Found dead in the burned-out Viridale forest a few weeks after the survivors were able to sweep the area after the Bloodmaim offensive. Aside from his usual attire, an intricate music box was the only thing in his possession.

I really don't think they should be able to request a replacement considering A) DMs are very tough on allowing releveling of any kind, and B) There are a lot of players with crafting feats, putting a lot of work on the shoulders of DMs whose time could be better spent.

So milk what you can out of the crafting system for now. Maybe some of the drop rates could be adjusted to make gathering the necessary materials easier? Dunno, just a thought.

As saulus said, we have low priority items, but that doesn't mean we don't want to do them, we just have to get other things right first. For example, crafting.

There will be a new and improved crafting system. The problem is crafting is bloated beyond what you can all imagine and before a new system can be plugged in the old one needs to be unplugged! AIEEEEE! Bless the coders who wrote the thing but it wasn't made modular at all which means tons of spaghetti code to sort through and slowly get out without breaking the server or missing something. (We can't expect errbody to code like GBX!)

What I wanted to achieve with crafting myself is ability to change the appearance of CURRENT items. As well as make items that store appearances. Something I have about 95% written for back end, but I need a front end to modify appearances. The idea is then people can do something like save an appearance and give to someone else to match or we can put appearances in, say, the faction stores for uniforms and people can take any item and make it look like a uniform.

I think that's something most people would take advantage of and would bring NWN2 crafting to be more like NWN1. I also don't like the dye gathering. To me, considering the game world compared to MMOs, a lot of materials need to be rethought. I'd rather people, for example, just spend gold to assume they bought a dye (It's not like dyes are rare in the world) or paint and made their items the color they want. Spend gold, not gather resources all over, or in lowbie areas where high levels shouldn't feel the need to go to unless for plots or RP.

It's easier, in my opinion, to just run what I should be running and have the resources I need to do what I want to do, or resources to sell to others. We don't have the luxury of a High Level running through a low level area without being invasive on someone who might want to run it too. Unlike MMOs that can just add square miles to lowbie places.

I also want to have a persistent store that players can use to sell to each other when they craft. Put your wares on it and walk away. Let others buy it and you get the money. It's something I wished to tie to the Exigo factions where members might not have an overhead cost to doing this. That way people can see the benefits of their crafting without having to seek players out, and players can see the benefits of the crafters without having to make sure they're on at the exact same time. A Euro crafter can sell to americans!

I personally would love for the crafting and player driven economy to be more proficient at supplying everyone with what they need so if loot is scarce, at least you have coin. And crafters being the cheapest way to get what you want. But we're just not there yet.

Wow! I can't wait for this to become reality. My characters rely on the crafting system to generate income in game. This will really allow those of us that do craft an easier way to find customers, and vice versa.

                    Cheers!

I'd love to see Exigo removed as a joinable "faction," period. They are a business - can't I have a day job and also be a zealot for the Triad? I'd rather see them as an open access area with everything GBX mentioned, along with necessary benches. They can act as a facilitator for player transactions without having to be devout about membership. Anyways...

The rest sounds pretty good. I'm thinking the transition might get a bit messy, but the server has survived worse, and besides: thats the fun of modifying small-playerbase games.

Amazing! It really sucks that a lot of the cool player made items just get sold to a store and then disappears after what... 24 hours? Yes we have the trading forum, but posts don't seem to "delete once sold" so its cluttered with a lot of old/already sold stuff.

Some of the other points GBX mentioned sound awesome too. Paying money instead of collecting mundane ingredients would decrease a lot of tedious OOC killing, and being able to copy armour/clothing appearance would be very cool!
