Scouts, trailblazers, and adventurers of all sorts have braved the snows to reach the Spine. Rumors of sustained camps and taverns have been confirmed, encouraging more and more to brave the weather. Rough maps have been drawn, and the trails into the mountains are becoming easier to travel.
Trails and roads are very different. A trail is not clearly marked. A trail is not maintained or patrolled. A trail is not suitable for a trade caravan.
Sundren City has placed an open proposal to construct a trade road to the northern territory of Bristlebeard's Hollow. The road will allow safe trading with the dwarves there, who have a wealth of metals but little else. There is great opportunity there, but great risk as well.
Two prominent organizations have bid on the project. The Exigo Syndicate was the first to contact Bristlebeard's men. They gave the idea to the city of a trade road, and have an impressive, well-constructed plan for the road. However, their plan has some glaring flaws, most notably its request to wind through the Viridale. On the other side, the Thayan Enclave has submitted a rough bid on the project. They had less time to outline their ideas, but have strong ties to the Sundren government. Their proposal is a more direct route, running through Aquor, but there are many who distrust the shrewd Thayans.
Both organizations are in high standing with Sundren. Each company has suggested they have rights to the project and even gone so far as to threaten their relationship with the city if they are not awarded the prize.
So, rather than make a decision, the government has placed the outcome of the project on the organizations themselves. They have created a contest of sorts, and the winner will be awarded the Silver Pike project.
The organizations are not to use their own resources. Rather, they must hire Sundren citizens and adventurers to collect a list of goods. This was good news to the people of Sestra. The list of items are a test of how quickly each organization can round up materials for building a road. The list has been publicly posted as follows:
Each organization has stated they will offer 150% of appraised value for each item given to them by any crafters or adventurers. They welcome the assistance and have already put their wheels in motion...
