Xee, you're way out of line here. I don't know where you get the idea that DMs interfere with voting--it's sincerely a baselss accusation you're making. The DMs only exercise discression on the voting when:
* There is a tie (in the case here, there was a three-way tie for second place)
* The winner of the vote has infractions or other violations against them
I frankly don't see why you're bent SO out of shape over a simple "feel-good" reward. Get some perspective please. This is supposed to be fun.
