  • In Regards to the Public Auction of March 10

    Ladies and Gentlemen,

Well for those of you who were there and participated in the auction this morning. I'd really like to get your feedback on what you thought about it personally. What this means of course is both negative feedback and positive feedback.

    What did you think?

    How did you feel?

What do you really enjoy about it?

What did you dislike about it?

What would you suggest we do in the future to improve the experience for everyone involved?

Remeber, this is an honest resquest for honest criticism. If you have something to say, say it. Because it will only help the events that are planning to become consistant here in the long run *smiles*. Thank you for your time and opinions.

I'll post my own thoughts so far then.

        1) Near the beginning, the pace was too fast. It was a lot of number-mashing and lacked thought-out responses. This got better later on, but it can always use improvement.

        2) I liked having a break in the middle. It gives PCs a chance to sit back and relax. Auctions are primarily a social gathering to stimulate RP, so that is always a plus.

        3) Do it in the early afternoon.

Looks like the actual timing wasn't good for a lot of people then. I guess if you went for late afternoon US time it wouldn't be too late for the Europeans either, that might get a better turnout.

Purely my personal thoughts - I enjoyed it, (despite a near total absence of funds with which to buy anything) you obviously had to work pretty hard to keep everything moving along though. It's a balance I guess between everyone being there for a reason (the auction) and allowing enough space for RP while the auction is happening.

On a practical point, although I don't know if this is possible....given that there are players who don't use the forums, or who may not have seen any particular thread, is it possible to have something in game that lists upcoming events? Maybe as an addition to the OOC tool, or by changing the descriptive text on the signpost outside the building where the event's happening. (of course this may be completely impractical, as my knowledge of what would be involved is nil)

Well... Euniana's suggestion would work - late afternoon would certainly be too late for the Europeans.

To be fair, it should not be later than 10 pm GMT (+/- 0). Everyone could be there then (apart from server max capacity) - even the Australians!

(I wrote this out last night, but the forums weren't working for me when I first tried to submit my reply.)

I think it was a good event. I like auctions as long as they are conducted well. I felt that this type of event is a great way for new players (such as myself) to meet others and to see what sort of roleplay is available.

I really enjoyed seeing the different items that were offered, and I think the way that they were presented (complete IC descriptions) was fantastic. You should definitely keep that aspect.

What I disliked is strictly IC, so I'll not mention it unless you're just absolutely curious.

As for in the future... it may be a good idea to limit the number of items that someone can purchase. I don't really think today's auction needed the rule, because those that bought multiple items went through a proper bidding war to obtain them. I also know that money isn't as easy to obtain here, so one person being able to buy every nifty item would be a rarity. However, that may change in the future... so consider this a "head's up." I don't see a problem really with allowing it now, but the last thing that new players in the future will want to see is someone with oodles of money buying all the items. It might be IC, but it would still suck on an OOC level and might deter newer players in attendance.

Also, and I noticed that it was not a problem at all today, but again in the future... limit emotes and non-essential talking to whispers. Today's auction was small and the text was not flying, but with larger auctions and more people this may become a nuisance.

Overall I think it was very well done, and I look forward to attending the next one.
