I disagree that lawful alignment and law of the land are completely unrelated. A people or city with a lawful alignment disposition will tend to have more laws of the land, enforcing their decisions through documentation, detail, and organization.

You're right that a lawful-aligned character need follow the laws of whatever land he's in, but he will be more inclined to respect mortal laws than chaotic characters. For example, a Triumvirate member might disagree with the Anderson Act (registering half-orcs to the city). But they'd be less-likely to speak out publicly against it, as that might disrupt the order and disrespect the city.

to quote myself EGADS aligment how I hate thee.

simple question to thow a big monkey wrench into this.

LN monk who aligns himself with the veritas is allowed no? yet that is breaking town law, by being an ally with someone seeking to change the laws and power that be.

my view is alignment has to do with the charactors mentality. Not how law abiding they are.

A Chaotic charactor could be 100% law abiding person. Just scatter brained, forgetful, etc which shows their chaotic nature.

If you want to have a discussion about alignment, start another thread! I'd comment, but I contribute to enough derailings already

There's absolutely no compulsion for anyone playing a Dwarf to give them a Northern-English/Scottish accent. They can sound French for all I care.

Heh, on another server I played on the DM had the dwarves speaking germanic and all the elves were speaking french!

So you had Elven Paladin/Duelists called Robert De' Sable & Dwarven barbarians called King Canute

I'll put forward a couple of theories about dwarven speech.

First, they seem to have that Scottish accent because that's how the common tongue was taught to them eons ago and dammit if it was good enough for great great great great great great great great grand pappy it's good enough for me! It could also be a big joke on everyone else. This might be what dwarves hear people talking like. It's what they think they need to sound like to be understood. . .

My personal favorite is that many many many years ago the first dwarven champion to be recognized outside of the clans spoke this way for one reason or another and now all the dwarves who venture out of their holds do as well.
