  • Question for Sundren's builders

    Hello folks,
I've been lurking for a while, and I like some of the extra features the Sundren team have installed into the server and I am wondering what they are, and if I could copy/borrow/loan/use them on my own server I am tinkering with.

Stuff like the skills roller, and the extra menu when you click on the main options button, or the menu block in the top right hand coner of the screen, etc. Are these things from the NWN2 community or custom stuff made by the makers of Sundren?

Now that WOULD be giving away the tricks of the trade wouldn't it!?

I'm sorry, but these are all things that will remain specific to Sundren alone. They're not plugins free for use :/

Kaeldorn, your UI is custom; all the stuff it touches is not. Most of the player tools are most certainly not Sundren specific. I've seen about... four other servers that have the dice rolls he mentioned, and that's about 100% of all the servers I've ever even logged onto. This goes for most of the options in the menu he mentioned, assuming I'm envisioning the right one. Player search, for instance, is not exclusive.

Tailz, I recommend looking at the Vault for a bunch of nifty stuff. DMFI is something you should look into, which offers a lot of DM tools, dice rolls, and other junk. There are scripts and haks as well, many of which parallel Sundren's features to some extent.

Make no mistake, Sundren has a lot of genuine custom content, and all that I've seen of it is excellent -- but the things you mentioned are not specific to Sundren.

Kaeldorn's UI is a stroke of genius, it looks great. I love the change to the button graphic, I'd love to know how it is done so I could make my own button design.

Thanks, I'll poke my nose around the vault to see what I cna find. Hopefuly it will not be too complex as I don't want to do any real programming - I'm an artist, not a programmer, cutting code makes my head hurt.

Sundren is fantastic eye candy, I'd play on it more if it was a little more entertaining. But it feels a little... ...vacant at times. But the time I'm on must be when all the usal crowd of Sundren folks are asleep.

Ahhh, i thought it might have been something from the NWN2 modding community you had modified.

Don't worry, I have no intention to "steal" your work.

            Learn from, but not steal.

That'll be the least of your worries if you intend to make your own server. Remember, we've been at this for nearly 3 years.

Just to clarify; while the majority of the controls behind UI's used are based on the DMFI plugin, not all of them are and nearly all of them are customised with Sundren specific things. All of the scripts behind the mentioned UI's as an example are heavily altered, and can hardly be called 'not custom' anymore. You'd need to program it to be handled similar to how Sundren does it.

This is a good tutorial to learn the basics:
                http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view...s.detail&id=92

All of the image editing is done in photoshop, using techniques I learned mostly from messing around with effects and tools for leisure. I'm hardly a trained graphic artist, so if you are it shouldn't be too much trouble

IF your building your own server be prepared to code alot.

Just think of this, Sundren is in beta after three years. So figure its going to take a long time to build something near to it.

Though I know how a few things work, there are a few things I do ponder how they function. (socketed items )

Unless you have alot of staff, or free time making a server will be difficult. And unlike the movie "If you build it they will come" does not apply to servers. Just log into mulitplayer and look at all the servers with 0/40 out there.

I doubt I'll get to soething that large. I'll keep to the small scale.

I agree, but is this the case because NWN2 tools and support for persistant worlds was crap for a while? Thus it has taken a fair while for good worlds to be built and be stable?

Correct, the toolset wasnt geared towards handling lots of players at the same time... why they didnt learn after Neverwinter Nights 1 & BGII Ill never know

stable? got me the toolset on just ONE area I have been tinkering on crashes a good chunk just loading the area.

5-6 creatures 2 stores, 2 doors, probably a dozen waypoints. and that is all. Its truly a bare and ugly area.

Though I did get a few new ideas into the area, none of which work yet though in theory should haha...
