Hi, I just started playing hre, but I've been having a little difficulty getting around. I'm getting periodic crashes, mostly when going to or from the World Map. I've been checking out the forums on bioware, and it seems pretty common, but I was wondering if anyone here had experienced this and come up with a solution. Thanks!

It's a pretty common NWN2 issue. Do you have a pretty decent computer? I think more RAM leads to less transition crashes, but I could be talking out of my ass

The more RAM you have, the better. NWN2 is crash prone as is, below 2GB of memory it gets significantly worse.
I have 4GB and still get crashes, but nowhere near as many as I would on a system with 2. Unless you have a high spec machine, turning down graphics settings helps as well. The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

Maybe some 4000 Mb Virtual Memory assignment will be good, my PC have only 2 GB Ram and 4096 MB Virtual Memory and woo hoo, 1 on 100 crashes.Anorith Imyn A young elven girl with a thirst of blood and power.

I used to get crashes all the time when I played on Sundren, back when I was only on about 1gig. Now that I have 3, they still happen, but far less.-Arcanist Josirah Caranos, Red Wizard of Thay

I think it's more like... what the hell is Arlock talking about? He must be playing a different game if he has never had a crash on a transition... lolThe very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

hmm we have a spec topic I posted my puter in there and been staring at new hardware so got all kinds of hardware ideas dancing in my head.
Though I think I have 2 gigs of ram, perhaps if I do like someone else said and increase the virtual memory to 4gigs could help. Intresting idea and good to know.
thanks.
P.S. I have had the darn thing crash on just having the camera spin...

I doubt increasing virtual memory will help unless you're using a large portion of your pagefile already -- in which case you should be buying more memory in the first place. When I played on Sundren awhile back, I had an older graphics card and 1GB of RAM and crashed a lot. Now, I have two 7600 NVIDIA SLI and 4 GB of RAM and hardly ever crash on transition. The transitions are much quicker also.
I do believe it is more the RAM than anything else, but it could be your graphics card also.
Hope that helps.- Dalrion - Ranger of the Viridale

Well heres what i know it's a dell game-spec computer. arrons told me i would never have to upgrade the graphics card with in the next 5-6 years. he said i might need more ram after some time though. 1k i think?

Arlock, you sure you've experienced no crashes. And lets not take this off-topic or I'm going to have to start posting my spec and hoping it beats Saulus'.
Basically, try to increase your RAM as said before, and with it being so cheap anyway, if it doesn't work, it is still an investment worth while as other programs should run faster.
If this doesn't find the main source of the problem, theres always reformatting if problems continue to arise. Alothough it is a little time-consuming and boring.Originally posted by LollercideNot even Ilmater would suffer Dune and Mach's wrath for us.

A small tip if you are a crash sufferer is to avoid certain things with a character also.
Druids, OMG, transitioning in wildshape is 9/10 times a crash.
Casters, Covering your PC in dozens of sparkly effects and magicky bits can cause a similar effect. Polymorph spells also. Etc.
Play things like rogues, fighters, barbarians, you get the drift.

Yes, running it through bootcamp on an older MacBook Pro with 1 gig of RAM. Not ideal, I know, but its what I have and I really missed playing the old nwn with my friends. We agreed to try and get nwn 2 and pick it back up again. I've messed with the settings, but it sounds like I might need to upgrade to 2 gigs.
