  • I like this place.

Just a general comment. After a month or so of poking around I wanted to say that I like this place a lot; the DMs and the players both seem pretty cool, it's very pretty and seems well-designed, and the roleplay is totally solid. I've been trying to seduce some of the gang from an old NWN PW I used to play and DM on to come visit (though I think many of them were disillusioned by NWN2, so I don't know how successful I'll be). Sooo, anyway, that's all I really wanted to say for now.

I am curious, though; from what I gather, Sundren has been in beta for quite a long time. I was wondering what goals the devs hope to achieve before they feel they could move it out of beta. *shrug*

This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle." -- Frederick Douglass

The primary goal is automated faction joining, to my knowledge. Right now, if a player wants to join a faction, it has to be done through a DM (with 2 exceptions I think?). The future goal will have quests that result in faction membership, along with faction stores with special faction items.

Reminds me of my first comments "This is beta?".

Only thing I can think that is being done is getting ready to up the cap to level 20, adding quest so everyone can join all fractions, modifying of the crafting system, and alterations to the banking system. (gleamed from forum topics).

I am no staff but those are my guesses. Though way things are going that "Beta" tag could be removed very soon, seems pretty darn stable and polished.

Have to wait for a staffer to comment, to get what the real deal is.

Ah, I see. Well, it seems to look pretty good already.

          Factions, Factions, Factions.

They will run themselves even when DMs aren't around, players will influence them, and gain benefits from them, the site, stats, player options will all tie into factions, reputations, and ranks.

Sundren will be driven by quests and factions when the beta is complete.

Does that mean a server wipe when we come out of beta? & do you have an ETA set yet?

Very pleased that this is the goal, can be hard for myself as I'm British to be online when quests happen, if the factions are majorly player driven then it would not be too much of an issue with not being able to interact with DM's.

I like the idea of it being quest-driven. I presume that we're talking about automated quests, since that's the idea with the factions. I'd hate for it to be saturated with quests like an MMORPG, though, where you can just mindlessly grind your way to max level. I can't see that, though, given the atmosphere here. My character is at the point where he can't really advance much without assistance, at level 6, but he still has a number of quests in his journal. I think that's the way it should be in a NWN PW, though. I tend to be very reserved and shy when talking to new people, though, so breaking through that is tough. Zim is working on it.

I would further presume that progress past a certain point on a particular series of faction-oriented quests would then prevent that PC from accessing quests for non-compatible factions. That would make sense, anyway.
