    http://www.sundren.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1145

I thought of this after reading the above post and the reply...

I don't think that one should start rumors about oneself. Or at least it should really be plausible IC (I am not criticizing the above thread as I do not know the background for it).

I do not think it is up to the player who 'wants' a specific rumor to start to post it. If a player wants a certain rumor to come up, I would wish for him to work on an IC foundation for it. Afterwards PM a DM and describe the situation and ask for a rumor to be put up. Or contact those that you interacted with in-game and ask them to post a rumor on the forum pertaining to their view of what has happened.

Um... I hope I did not fail utterly in trying to explain what I mean...

I overheard at some point that this actually happened in character, so don't worry yourself over it. Still, we prefer that people don't dictate popular response in rumours about themselves.

      Yeah, that's all I'm asking/hoping for...

But what I described in my first post is how players/characters get their rumors going without putting them up themselves (which is lame). Let's see...

Well, I noticed that DMs seem to expect feedback about their quests to spark up in the rumor forum - It was pretty much an invitation to post more about the white wolf...

...but straightforward rumors are boring and I find overblown rumors more on the fun side (I mean, I can imagine a DM look at this, crack a smile as he goes "What the heck" and write up something equally wild with perhaps a clue or two). Seeing that all that stuff actually had basis - I was running around with a white wolf around the border post and the port and I did have an altercation with a half-orc right next to the Exigo miner camp - so this all has some credence. Unbelievable, but with actual roots. Plus, it's not like any characters mentioned there were superheroes with power ratings over 9000...

If that's wrong, it's no pain for me not to do it - I really just wanted to contribute more activity on the forum.

          Ah, do continue!

If it is all done 'in spirit', then it can be great - agreed.

            Its OVER NINE-THOUSAND!!!

            *clears throat*

Yea, starting rumors about oneself is kinda lame, unless it is a post about what happend with RP, then it is probably good for others that weren't there to know.
Heh, i guess my characters are deleted, now. Updating char list soon!

Everything that is described in the rumor happened to Maia. If it's a DM event that you were in, then the rumor is hardly self-serving.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

If it wasn't considered too much hassle, the rumors could be exclusive for the DMs to post People could send a PM to an assigned DM with suggestions for rumors on something they did or saw happen and the DM would decide if it would get the NPCs attention enough for it to become a rumor and guide their reaction about it. It would keep silly rumors from being forcibly spread and the reactions would be dictated by a DM. Just a random thought
