  • Latrines MK2

Alrighty there was a thread on this and it got closed.

I think everyone was dismissing it as something that wasn't needed for the sake of respectability and decency, bla blaa blaaa... yada yada.

I used to play on a server where there were toilets. There was just the odd small room somewhere around the back of the bar in most inns and taverns. At first they had some little stone wells you could select and sit on for RP reasons but this soon evolved.

The lavatory room soon became the place to go to do dirty dealings and underhanded business. It was a prime locations for contraband trades and underworld activity. Soon enough there was a lavatory, area transition from every tavern, into the expansive waterdavian sewer systems. Yeah, disgusting, but I tell you when you are a rogue wanted for murder and your in a bar and 5 player guardsmen come in with blazing halberds wanting to arrest you, you really respect that hole in the ground and the ability to loose them in the sewers.

My point being is that latrines are good areas to have, especially in taverns. They are a back door and a descrete area that allow certain classes and factions to get up to the naughty things they shouldn't be.

I could highly reccomend making the Sundren sewer system a little more complicated and having the occasional exit into various bars and public houses via a bathroom.
If honour is truth and a lie is respect, then a secret is sacred.

Actually... I like that idea, a lot. The sewers always felt like not much more than a dull hunting ground to me, with exceptions of a very small number of DM orchestrated events that did imply shady things were going on down there. With more shady connections and ways to use it for players, it could become a more interesting part of the city.

Of course, I'd also put a trigger at each sewer entrance that'd put a cloud of stench with a temporary charisma penalty on anyone entering

Sewers don't just have to be a place for turds to float away. Many sewers are built to run into natural water sources or drain off into deep underground rivers.

The lizard men for instance I am sure do not live down there just to walk around in Sundrite faeces. It is likely there is some underground cave that the water runs into or perhaps something important to them down there. maybe a nesting place.

Thinks of the river ganges and all it's religious significance, think of all those people bathing in it to purify themselves and all the shrines that exist all along it's length. Then think of all the industrial waste and effluent that people pump into it.

I'd also like to remind people of the shadow thieves little place hidden away under the city of baldur's gate in BG1 accessable though the sewers.

Baldurs gate's sewers were awsome. especially in the console version, Dark alliance. There is always more to sewers than crap. Toilets leading into them can produce a great way for criminal or racially victimised characters to get around all the server's shadey spots without having to sneak around in the streets trying not to be seen.

RPing coming up the loo when someone was RPing sitting on it can also be quite fun. Happened to me once, can get very complicated and ended up with guards and myself jumping back down and a very lengthy chase trying to loose them.

Sundren City is a yet unrealized vision (the walls, the towers, the structures), as is the sewers. There is much for the sewers we plan to use in conjunction with Robinson Workshop. As with Mossdale, all good things come in time.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.
