    Playing Sundren without SoZ

    You got it!

    I have downloaded the most recent updates for NWN2 and run the sundren updater, to get everything all up to date but I have not bought SoZ yet.

    Today I thought, hmm I wonder if I can log on. Well I could and I did and I had a good walk about and seems everything functions alright.

    I'm guessing as long as I don't go somewhere new or somewhere containing something new, that is derived from the expansion, everything should work as normally as it just did today.

    This probably means DMed events with fancy spawns or exploring new areas is going to be a no no but if people just want to log on, bash some goblins and chat around the fire then they still can.

    Well one oddity I found is if you create a new charactor you do not have the whole opening scene anymore and the boat your are on must be wonder woman's boat.

      I could imagine that making a new PC might cause problems, especially in the long term. Probably something best to avoid unless you have the expansion I assume.

          Of course, I will be getting SoZ but in the short term this is good news for people like myself who can't afford anything more before christmas.

            It could be all the SoZ content was pre-released in the update so that those who dont have SoZ can still play on their servers, just not aprtake in said content. Guild Wars did stuff like that.

              I tried this and it worked, however, I noticed everytime I went into my character screen I got lagged out. I probably did this about a handful of times at random times after logging in and it seems that once that screen popped up I had to log out.

                What Rugabug said might be true. NWN2 doesn't have the massive community that NWN1 had and if you kill off half your followers by bringing out a new expansion that suddenly everyone's player worlds begin to require and the 'majority' just don't want to spend more money on the game, that means community death for NWN2.

                On the otherhand if you make everything compatible but people just need the expansion to be able to play the cool stuff they can see others now using then jealously makes more people go out and buy SoZ.


                P.S. I just ordered SoZ from Play.com for £9.99 and with free delivery. I don't think i've seen it for sale anywhere cheaper, even amazon only has it second hand for around £13-£14

                  Hi, the reality is such, that I'm just waiting for a postman to deliver me the SoZ. I know that I won't play the single mission but I need it for Sundren and I don't know if the update self (SoZ) will bring something new to the server (I fear not).

                    I never understood what this guy was talking about in game and now I have no idea what he is talking about in reality either...

                        ah retcon. you are being allowed to play because there is absolutly no SoZ content on sundren, that I know of. When it gets included then you have issues.

                            I haven't gotten the expansion yet, but I did do the updates. It is so nice to be back again.

                            Even though I don't get to experience (yet) the new SoZ goodies, but I do like the challenges what the new update has. I find the creatures have a better AI, and actually make more use of their Listen & Spot checks. It hasn't worked too well for my poor wizard, but he'll adapt.

                              What if im up to date but I dont have any expansion?
                              does it works? (mask of the betrayer is the first expansion right..?)
                              I bought the game when it came out and never played
                              so I want to test it and I was on RP server on NWN 1 so... im still interested in that kind of game.
                              Hope it will be possible
