Oh, cmon how the heck does a Goblin read a scroll of cloudkill?! Beware the might of the Spittlefist Wizardry!

Ps: This a bug? or they suppose to be able to use those scrolls?

Goblin in Viridale critted Falmari for 37 the other day! Are these goblin bowmen RDD weapon masters now as well?

Your cloudkill incident tops mine; thats pretty cool that you got a screenie as well

I think by default if the creatures spawn items to their inventories as loot, they will attempt to use any item they can, including those Eagle's Splendor potions and whatnot, which will 'certainly improve' their chance to tackle the adventurer... Hell I even got screenshot from NWN1 where a gelatinous cube throws holy water at me!

I think that you got at the same time outstandingly lucky and unlucky, because the goblins had a very rare scroll drop but for some reason (I suspect rogue levels and high UMD along with the lesser DC of scroll use for NPCs), they managed to actually use that scroll successfully and get you killed with crappy roll.
Happens...Not luckily often at all, but it happens.

As for the bow critical part, you gotta remember that all bows (excluding crossbows) have 3x critical so if they roll 20, you're gonna be in world of pain.
37 is high but if you calculate something like +3 composite shortbow for the goblin doing max damage of 8+3 multiplied by 3x, it gets pretty near.
The funny thing of course is that 37 is not possible number with 3x criticals but NWN2 has the mathematic system of its own as most of us are well aware. (you roll 1,1,1 and the enemy rolls 19,20,19 )

Viridale gobbies are not supposed to be just some random bunch of weak goblinoids anyway, they're semi-organized and experienced warparties of varying savage humanoids and a lot better trained than Spittlefist for instance.
So be well prepared when you go against a small army, even if it was goblin army

Ask Lasala about her incident with the muckspear chief: it happened something like this!

-Lasala gets the goblin chief down to near death (with Falmari's aid of course).
-Goblin repostes with a barrage of two ciritcals with his muckspear, the latter hitting 50+ points of damage.
-Lasala runs and is hit by yet another crit killing her outright.
-Falmari kills the goblin chief with creeping cold only to find his trademark spear that has dealt much grief is now..... A KAMA!

It is all these little quirks that make NWN2 and Sundren what they are

My advice: Take a party, and be prepared for everything. Knowing what the enemy will do every time makes a very repetitive and boring game. Unless you're one of them dimwitted grinders. Then you'd better watch out because those gobbies might just start using even more powerful spells...

I don't think NPC's even need UMD skill, they just use what they have if the conditions are right for them to use the spell just like if they had it memorized

But yeah, ouch. How is DC of scrolls determined? Cloudkill is a 5th level spell, so does that mean that goblin has 16 int to boost his DC? Please don't tell me it's his cha..

My cat farted on my Heroquest board once and knocked down most of the pieces with the vibration right in the middle of a heated game.

Not sure what this has to do with these flukes but somehow your stories made me think of that magical time.
