Correct. All DM avatars are level 1, that's why we need to be invisible... otherwise we'd be fodder for all you PCs, and that would just be wrong!

On the other hand, it would be truly badass to be level 1, free to show oneself and still be impossible to defeat. Oh wait...

I havnt been on for a while but imo playing your character at low levels is quite rewarding if only for meeting the rest of the great players on here...

I normally play pure classes as much as possible cause levels dont mean much then, but Sundren has some great custom PrCs that dont need unlocking!

I've never been higher than 9th on online NWN 1. For NWN2, most other worlds I played on, I got to 2nd if i was lucky to find anything to fight or any statics that might exist. So many worlds out there are wonderfully crafted barron expanses void of content and lacking in DM attention.
