  • What armors are in Mage armor?

    I was buffing my wizard this morning and did some testing to discover that the Spell Mage armor consists of multiple types of armor in this testing I found shield is all Deflection AC.

    Shield = 4 deflection AC'
    Spiderskin = 2 Natural AC

    Mage Armor = 1 deflection, 1 Natural, and 2 of some other kind. I was wondering if someone with some dodge ac could test it, to see if its +1 dodge ac as well with +1 Armor.

    So, is it intended that mage armor be made of several different kinds of ac? or is it suppose to be like shield or spiderskin and be all of one type? In the case of Improved mage armor what kind of AC are the additional +1 for every 2/lvls?

    Thanks all, just curious!

    Yeah, this is a custom Sundren thing, due to the fact that +8 AC for 2 level 1 spells is quite ridiculous. I would link you to the post if I could be bothered, but basically, Shield is +4 deflec, non-stacking, and mage armour is +1 nat, +1 deflec, +1 dodge and +1 armour (from memory).

    I'm not sure about Improved Mage armour, I guess someone else who uses that regularly could help you with that.

    EDIT: Maybe I can be bothered :S http://www.sundren.org/forum/showthread.php?t=4540
    And don't let that put you off buying shield and mage armour wands! For a very meagre price, you could be looking at +7 increase in your AC!

      Keep in mind, Dodge AC is stackable from multiple sources. Natural, Armor, and Deflection is not.

          "Armor" armor bonuses don't stack?

          I thought it worked like...
          A +2 shield (Armor Bonus)
          And a +2 Full Plate (Armor Bonus)
          ------------------------------
          +4

          I knew defelction and natural didn't stack, i just thought the "Armor" type did.

            Doesn't a +2 shield give you a shield bonus?

              Armor/bracers - Armor Bonus
              Shield - Shield Bonus
              Ring/Cloak/helm - Deflection Bonus
              Amulet - Natural Bonus
              Boots - Dodge Bonus

              I'm not entirely sure about belts. . . But this is the way the bonuses stack up as per-standard.

              And none of these bonuses stack save for Dodge bonuses, and in some cases Natural armor, though I'm fairly certain that the 'natural armor' bonuses that do stack are documented as dodge bonuses and only said to be Natural. (The one example I can think of is the Half-celestial natural armor bonus, which stacks with amulets of natural armor.)

                Natural Armor that Druids get from spells such as Tortoise Shell stack with the Natural Armor given by shapeshifting into a form that has inherent AC bonuses. That's the only input I have.

                  Hrm, My armor doesn't have +1 ac on it so I can't determine if Mage armors +1ac stacks with it. But the dodge makes since.

                    If your armour doesn't have +1 AC already, then you'll get a boost from the mage armour.

                      yes as rusted stated the +1 ac on armor will not stack with mage armor spell.

                        does misc AC bonus exist in 3.5 rules?

                        It did in 2nd and 3rd, and it stacks with every other type. Im thinking the ring of earth control & Cloak of the Sewers from BGII!

                          misc still exists in 3.5, but I don't think it exists in NWN2. . . Same with Luck AC.

                            You can get a +1 luck bonus to AC through a history feat (Luck of Heroes) selected at 1st level, but that's it.

                              So you could just cast mage armor, then put on a chain shirt and get +7 AC? Also the point of mage armor was that you cast it then forget about it. In PnP my level 12 sorceror just cast it twice a day then didn't care about it any more.
