Reminder about Being TOO Helpful

Hey guys

Just a very quick reminder about being too helpful. I know there are a lot of good guy paladin types that will bend over backwards to help folks, and I think that's great, in moderation.

Keep in mind, the encounters are scaled, but limited when a DM is not present. When you go through the goblin caves as a level 13, escorting someone much lower level, it defeats the purpose of creating a dangerous environment.

It's OK to do this occassionally, but please exercise moderation. Sometimes, for game balance, you have to step outside of your IC reactions and make sure a challenge is present.

When I see this happening as a DM, I WILL present the higher level with challenges. That may wind up being a very fatal situation for the one you are escorting. Remember, you are in dangerous areas, even if you're not the level you think the area is OOCly meant for.

Please, no responses regarding specific character reactions. As I said, it's OK in moderation. Just be mindful in the future--thanks.

I know I, on Hano, am guilty of this -- Lack of moderation when coming to help. When I understand that the best times I've had on Sundren with Hano was when it was me, Jalmar(Slanke), and Vu getting our asses kicked in the Necropolis every day.

The quests are meant to be challenging so they're rewarding both mentally and XP wise when you complete them. When I hit level 15 on Hano, I was actually more upset than I was happy that I no longer had that distant goal or constant struggle to reach 15.

With that said, sorry for all of the players I've walked through quests and dungeons. Should there be a time where I feel comfortable playing Hano again, I'll be sure to keep your words in mind, PL, and be mindful in the future.

Nothing like going back to the beginning. Old school players can always hop on a new character and show the noobs around. That's why I have like 10 characters now.
