  • New Races?

I remember a while back there being talk about the lizardmen being a useable race to play as, or going to be play as in the future. I was wondering if there were any other race's that were being plan.

Plus i was also wondering if there any newer classes coming. Perhaps the ninja or something...

I don't really see a suggestion here, moved to general discussion.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

      Oi not a ninja :P

I'm not speaking badly against the class but one oriental class outside of the orient is more than enough :P

I would actually like to see a Reaping Mauler prc , would be pretty sweet!!
Or....a new class that is deity specified , like Shar.
Or...maybe implementing a hagspawn race since motb already had one, dunno *shrugs*

Actually some (but not all) of the races from the original campaigns can be used with a simple 2da edit. The game has full stats for them including proper ECL and everything.

There is a subtype of gnome ... can't remember which but there is one. There is also the Half-celestial race used in MOTB ... it is an ECL 4 Race!!! ... but it's fully usable with a mild 2da edit. Sundren could impliment that but I'd hate to see the person who has to effectively get to level 5 just to hit level 2 :P

These implementations would be possible but not necessarily worth while. ECL races would be locked anyway so you'd only be able to play them if you win RPotM.

Sure you could, but the quality is so poor when you do that. Theres more to a race then a 2da edit and some text. Each race needs models. All the races in MOTB that are NPCs have 1 maybe 2 variations on their skeletons. The majority of them do not have hook points for armor, cloaks, gloves, or boots. Not to mention having 1 or 2 heads to choose from that are non tintable. Thus you get all the PC's looking IDENTICAL. Thats poor quality.

Now I know Avlis did pixies, lizards, and ogres, and claim to be working on more, but I don't forsee it happening in the forseeable future. Why?

Because to choose a custom race at character creation, you'd need the Haks to load first as well as the TLK.
Obsidian has gone 2 years without providing this, and after that long, I'm comfortable in saying, "It's not going to be provided".

The only work around is a character creation module and people to email in their character files, which would require a full time staff position to go thru each and everyone to make sure no one LETO'd an extra point of int here, or a point of STR here, not to mention skills, feats, etc.

The options are limited for PWs wating to use custom races. Its extremely limited to what could be efficently implemented. Even if you duplicate other models (using a strongheart for a ghostwise model) you still have to deal resetting all the default racial scripts to include a new constant as well.

This is not an easy or quick thing, its a massive undertaking, it was much simpler in NWN1, but then again, nwn1 was a much simpler system.
