  • Skill vs Skill

With the implementation of the new skills, how do these map against each other (e.g. for PvP interactions)? Here are my thoughts. DM's please chime in. Once the you guys decide on it, I can put it in the Wiki so players know how to roll against each other while RPing so we can react properly.

Also, is it straight roll vs straight roll? (i.e. whoever has the higher score wins) If you can also add DC modifiers when you come up with them, it'd be great. I can post them per skill.

    • Decipher_Script vs Forgery

    • Disguise vs Sense Motive or Spot (but only if suspicious) (side question: if totally hooded, no need for a disguise check right?)

    • Escape_Artist vs Use Rope

    • Forgery vs Decipher Script

    • Gather_Information vs nothing (the DC's are already listed in the skill)

    • Sense_Motive vs Disguise/Bluff

    • Intimidate vs Concentration

    • Bluff vs Sense Motive

    Did I miss anything?

I'm no member of the staff but I'll field this one from own experience.

Have you ever tried to disguise yourself for a gag in RL? anyone who has seen/talked with you can usually tell who you are simply by looking at your eyes and listening to your voice. It is VERY hard to disguise yourself.

With that in mind just throwing on a hood that covers the bottom half of your face isn't going to cut it ... in my opinion. If you are hiding off somewhere and not interacting with someone who has met you before sure but if you get too close or worse yet try and talk your gonna be found out.

This can be solved by acting differently and disguising ones voice ... done well enough it can make people disregard the mild familiar look of the upper half of your face. So if you need to disguise your voice and act differently to pull it off I'd say it definitely requires a Disguise check.

        Intimidate vs Concentration
Hmmmghggnmnmgnmgmn... I'd say will rather then concentration.
        Depends on situations I guess.

Agree with Dune - Will seems to make more sense. Might also be useable against a Taunt, though I think in game mechanics it's concentration...
Annaleen Wiltenholm-There's always something to smile about.
Chani Kalera- Intimidation is the new diplomacy. *looms*
Eleanor "Bloody Elle" Lark - Why is the rum always gone?
Yolanda Brown - If life gives you lemons, make lemonade. But unless life also gives you water and sugar, your lemonade is going to suck.

PnP for Intimidation checks are v/s Will Save.

As for Ged's comment, I'd agree. The Disguise check doesn't just go into a physical disguise, it's the way you change your behavior and possibly add an accent (or maybe a huskiness or the like) to your voice.

Basically, use common sense. Before all these skills became customizable, I'd seen Will Saves, Spot Checks, and even an opposing check (of the same skill) used to discern Bluff rolls. Out of those three things, only a Bluff v/s Bluff makes any sense to me, as Spotting is a surface scan of whatever and Will Saves are made not to maintain your belief, but to maintain control of your character in the face of outside intelligence (such as psionics or a sleep spell) or against internal fear (brought on by Intimidation).

I'd suggest we just follow PnP rules as a strict guideline, and refer to the SRD for mechanics.

Certain skills are only rolled at the point of conflict, like use rope (to bind) and disguise. One cannot take 10 or 20, but must make the roll only at the time when the opposed roll to spot it is attempted.

                    Nickbeat, Sean,
Thanks for the links. I never knew it existed. I'll post them on the wiki once I get some time. Is the information copyrighted or can I just put the same info on the wiki? Also, I assume we're going with the stated the DC modifiers on the site?

What on the SRD is covered by the Open Gaming License, and is free for use as long as you don't take credit yourself.

Just don't post anything about rolling up your character or dnd abberrations (they locked that monster type down). THose are copyrighted
