  • New character and a few doubts.

    Hello there.

I am posting because I am returning to NWN2 and will start to play again. While I will not be able to login frequently until the end of the year, I will do so occasionally. To the few people that I meet while I played in the fist half of this year, my character was Alwyng. But now I have a more ambitious concept to a new character, so I'll be starting a new one.

But I have a few doubts.

It is possible that this character will become a Harper during the course, but there are chances of alignment changes to evil, depending on how things evolve.

My question is: supose a character has a certain amount of levels in Harper Agent class. Then he will be granted those abilites which receive gods' names (like Tymora's smile, for example). Considering that most of these gods, if not all, are good-aligned, would my character still be able to use the ability? Theoretically, as far as I understand, the ability has not divine origins, it is just a name, as if it was a homage to these gods. It is like discovering a certain technique and giving it the name of a god, which means it could still be used even after the alignment-shift.

But I am not sure, so I would like to hear another's opinion. Besides, will I need to make something special to choose this class in Sundren? I ask because the requeriments to be a Harper are somewhat expensive and it would not be nice to end with a more-or-less useless character.

But I haven't decided yet about Harper or Eldritch Knight as a prestige class, so I use the opportunity to ask the same to the Eldritch Knight: do I have to do something special to become one in Sundren? My idea is that a certain person left the instructions for my character to start the training as a Knight (if I choose this class, of course) and that would justify his choice.

Oh, and by the way, his main class will be wizard (as Alwyng already was). And he is, too, a sun elf.

    Thanks, everyone.

Read the wiki entry on Harper agents. It's a locked class, and you need IC actions and DM approval to become one. This most likely involves seeking out the Harpers IC. Eldrich Knight is an open class, however. Anyone can pick it, as long as they fulfill the requirements.

In regard to alignment changes, the only problem you would have is not being able to advance further in Harper Agent. They're not a divine class and don't have to worry about divine wrath. Even if they're tossed out on the streets by their fellow agents, they retain their training.

And if the abilities ARE granted by the god's they are named after and you loose them, then thats the way your character evolved, and it shouldn't matter, if being evil makes your character weaker, then that just might be enough of a reason to redeem himself, which could be a great aspect to your character.

This is true, but I consider gameplay is also important. For example, while fallen paladins are very interesting, I would probably avoid creating one because the game mechanics could make him useless.

Actually, the harper's abilities are not very relevant to the character (as a wizard, he would rely mostly on his own spells). I just considered the harper because, considering the biography (which I have not posted yet - I am still getting used to the wiki - ), a harper would be a nice touch. I asked about the divine abilities because it is something the game probably does not take into consideration (checking your alignment to decide if you can or cannot use the abilites, I mean).

However, I decided to play with an Eldritch Knight since it requires fewer things to get and it suits the character well enough.

As a Harper, he would tend to be more like a academic wizard. But I imagine this character as one who uses spells as a weapon (using modern terms, as a soldier and not as a scientist) to deal with a certain threat.
