  • Samurai v2

After much testing, theres a decidedly glaring problem with the samurai class.
There's nothing that makes it more special then a fighter with a single level of cleric. (Which is actually a better build then the current samurai build. Fighter who can cast bane spell = Samurai)

So to set him apart, were going to have the samurai be a two weapon fighter exclusively.

Unlike the duelist and other DEX based classes that are focused on the two weapon fighting styles, the Samurai's focus will be on STR (for all melee abilities) and CHA (for all non melee abilities).

This said, we've modified the class as such:

+ Demoralize Feat: Now lasts 3 rounds instead of one. Everyone can take advantage of this, not just samurai. It no longer stacks with repeat uses of itself from ANY source.

+ 4th level: The samurai gains two weapon defense. (Does not need to meet prerequisites)
+ 13th level: The samurai gains improved two weapon defense.(Does not need to meet prerequisites)
+ 21st level: The samurai gains perfect two weapon fighting.(Does not need to meet prerequisites)

Epic Samurai can choose from Epic Str and Epic Cha as well as the standard epic choices, when he gains an epic level bonus feat (which is every 3 levels in this progression 22,25,28)

    Woooo! Samurai love!

I love the changes, 'nuff said.
    Characters:
Peridan Twilight, one-eyed dog of the Legion, deceased.
Daniel Nobody, adventurer and part time problem solver.

    [DM] Poltergeist :
If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge an intermediate deity's unbridled fury.

Damn, you guys plan far ahead. Unless you plan to increase the level cap soon.

So, a DEX based char can't be a Samurai?

Nobody will keep you from playing a samurai just because your DEX is higher than you STR. You just don't need a high DEX and trying to maximize it won't help you much. That would be like trying to play a wizard with INT 12 and STR 18

Craap, that basically makes non-samurai two weapon fighters pretty obsolete. Oh well, farewell Clodwin

The songs have absolutely nothing to do with the characters. But they are awesome songs.

Thats the kind of post that makes people debate and argue over this. These changes are not debateable.

                And I think your wrong.
Even with these changes fighters still rule over Samurai.
                • Samurai cannot touch the amount of sheer damage a fighter can deal hit per hit.
                • Samurai have almost no PrC they can take with their limited feat selections (except Divine champion which almost everyone can take).
                • Not to mention your fighter can tell lies, break oaths, etc and keep going where a samurai loses everything if he does.

But if your so sure your obsolete, I'll be happy to delete your player vault for you

Sorry for making this question, a existing character can apply to Samurai?

No need to go off the deep end just because my opinion differs from yours, but yeah if you wanna go ahead and delete Clodwin then be my guest

Of course. there are two steps you ahve to follow to become a Samurai, but once you do, your won't be denied.

1.) You MUST post a Samurai Background on the wiki. We're not having any samurai 'playing it by ear' on Sundren. Its a class with a rich and full background and needs the same for the character.
2.) You must declare a lord who's orders you will always follow (if you refuse their orders you become ronin and lose all your cha based feats from the class (intimidate bonuses, staredown, kiai strikes)).
Your lord must be either an existing NPC on Sundren (many people use vitori of the red blades) or a PC of at least level 10.

Last time I checked we had a level 15 cap. Granted, you can technically rise above that cap, but good luck getting into epic levels on only DM event exp. Add in exp loss from death and yeah, there's a bit of a cap.

                            From the wiki:
Once your character reaches the final cap at the fifteenth level, he or she is no longer entitled to the 30XP per 10 minutes, and loses its income.

Hano, Tamryn, and Snow Hawk have made it 17 on DM RP XP from level 15, in around 2 months. I figure by xmas one of those two will be in the epic levels. It can be done, but yes, its not easy
