  • Something never to do in town

Yesterday I was meeting a couple of people in the Military ward of Sundren City to team up and then head into the city. We were RP-ing a bit beforehand when I got the idea to use the spell entangle to better illustrate something I was going to do in RP.

    Big mistake.

Though I cast it well away from any guards, it got all of us in the attacking stance, which might have been enough I suppose.

Anyway, the guard turns hostile, my animal companion runs over and bites him, and three seconds later I am in the Forest of Eternal Night.

It took me 747 xp and 357 gold to get out, too... that sucked.

Aye.. Any kind of spell that would inflict any kind of negative affect on anything... Even if it doesn't hit anyone, expect AI retaliation.

I remember a PC attacking me in a guarded area (Viridale Border).. I defended myself, but then was immediately killed by the guards for defending myself. Lost a good 6-9,000+ exp for that.

So my suggestion is this; don't cast anything or attack with anything in a guarded area.

Sound advice. If the guards attack you, then you did something you shouldn't do there anyway.

Hano, unfortunately ran into that bug I told you about. He hit another person's summon in front of the guards. I watched that whole thing go down. We really need to fix that one of these days.

Well yeah... I should have remembered my etiquette of spellcasting from the last PW I spent time in.

Area effect spells cast in town are a BAD IDEA.

Shame I had to learn this twice... but the last PW I hit up regularly was for NWN 1.

And that one had some wicked chaos you could unleash in a town... something called... the Deck of Misfortune or something like that.

You would draw 1-3 cards on it and all hell would break loose. The effects were I think...

          Plague: Persistent incurable disease
          Draw another card
          Draw three cards
Egg: Summon dragon fledgling familiar (friendly)
          Dragon: Summon black dragon (hostile)
Traitor: Total alignment shift. If you were LG you would become CE
          Teacher: 10,000 xp gained.
          10,000 xp lost
          100,000 gold gained
          100,000 gold lost
Deity Totem: one use per day item that shifted you into an Elder Elemental type dependent on your alignment

And probably more things I cant remember. You could draw the three card draw several times if you were lucky (or unlucky) and the effects could last a moment, or compound into a chaotic whirlwind which would end with the magic box guard trying to kill you to restore peace.

And yes... it was an insane PW... and I loved every second of it.

It was all on chance. But, of course, you didnt HAVE to use the decks... But then again they were too much fun not to use.

A "deck of many things" on Sundren would lure people certain Red Wizards PC's to it like flies to ****. And then I;d have to deal with the fall out, cause they wouldn't be able to resist the temptation.

Hehehe... the Keeper once got very angry at Annie for casting that same spell. I only just made it out alive...

In my case I only wanted to RP a spell accidentally cast the wrong way and backfiring.

              Boy, was it ever wrong!

I'm just glad the Keeper doesn't hold a grudge.

I accidentally made a guard go hostile picking his pocket the first time I ever logged on. Que forest of eternal night. I actually had to scrap that character eventually because guards everywhere suddenly went hostile and wouldn't change. Everywhere I went I was inundated with arrows and swinging swords

I still think the massive pet murder at Viridale Border was my all time favorite Guards gone wild moment.
Lately the only thing that keeps me from wishing for a worldwide disaster... is that it would probably interrupt my network connection

I can see that as a T-shirt... "Guards Gone Wild!"

And maybe a picture of a female guard in a set of chain mail that dose not protect so much.

Well the point was that the deck dissapeared once you used it... so you couldn't cause yourself too much trouble...

Of course some people would get them and leave them around for the unwary to find and use... and then laugh maniacally at the result. *looks conspicuously innocent*
