But I did make the miraculous discovery that even though the thing never seems to finish, I can still log in to the server, create characters, and actually end up in the port, move around, converse. So it did finish. It just didn't want to lose my company.

Try logging into the server, maybe, and see if it isn't just being...weird.
ditto. All the same errors, yet lets me in just fine

Keep trying, looks like a bad hop on the internet if you can't reach the host.

It pings fine, 100-120ms. However the address 70.85.236.34:80 comes back 404.

            As it should.

So I can ping it, get the 404, but still can not download the updates, something else has to be wrong.

Did you try the simple quick fixes like redownloading the updater? I got some errors before, but I reset my computer and everything and it worked the next time I tried.

I did... I read though this thread, uninstalled it, downloaded a new copy, and reinstalled it before posting. Sorry should have mentioned that in the first place.

Hard to say... if you can view the site its the same server as the FTP so... The update should just work.

Rebooted and shut down everything, still does not work.

Run "ipconfig /dnsflush" in a command prompt. Then try.

Then it's probably some software or something on your box blocking it.

If you read the log you can see that information was being sent out as the software is reporting the server failed to respond... that is not a local problem unless I am sending jibberish.

Nothing has changed on this PC since the last update.
