  • What skills are the skillz?

Forgive me for posting this if it can be found elsewhere... but I seriously couldnt find it anywhere.

Every PW uses skills differently... and I personally get tired REALLY fast of rerolling characters five times because of a skill I overlooked that was good, or a skill I took that was useless.

So please enlighten me on what skills are worthwhile, and what ones arent. I will list the ones I am most concerned about here.

Pick Locks. (How much is needed to open chests/doors... and how often are you going to be staring at a locked door or chest)

    Bluff/Diplomacy/Intimidate.

Craft Alchemy. (Can I buy the essences I need to enchant? And while I am at it... what is enchanting like in this PW?)

Craft Armor/Craft Weapon. (Is it worth it? Are there crafting elements and recipes? Is this any different from NWN 2 campaign crafting?)

Lore. (How many unidentified items do you come across? Can I get by with just identifying what I find at the merchants?)

All right... this is all I can think of for now. Thanks in advance.

There's a fair share of locked doors and chests. Even some places you can only reach if you have the lock picking skill (bashing not possible).

Bluff/Diplomacy/Intimidate are mainly roleplaying skills as they are now, and may be used in DM run events. Undoubtedly there are some things in the works to increase the value of these when interacting with the rest of the world though

Crafting skills are currently just about the same as they were in the OC, though toned down to fit the low-magic setting. Distilling is in (as far as I know) and new crafted items are in the works.

Lots of items you find will need identification. Though most of them are scrolls and only need a single point of skill. Unidentified magical items drop from quest bosses, but those are not repeatable. It can also be used as an RP skill, but I find lore to be of limited use overall.

Pick Locks. (How much is needed to open chests/doors... and how often are you going to be staring at a locked door or chest)
It is important. Many areas are hard toimpossible to get to without it. Though SOME doors and chests are now bashable. And as we go more will be converted to bashable.

      Bluff/Diplomacy/Intimidate.
Certain Classes and PrCs make use of these fundamentally.

Craft Alchemy. (Can I buy the essences I need to enchant? And while I am at it... what is enchanting like in this PW?)
Essences are not sold, though some distillables are and more distillables are to be found in loot. We have actually increased the difficulty of craft alchemy, so yes, its pretty darn important if your a crafter.

Craft Armor/Craft Weapon. (Is it worth it? Are there crafting elements and recipes? Is this any different from NWN 2 campaign crafting?)
Yes, and we have increased the minimum caster level for many recipes as well as removed some and added in new ones.

Lore. (How many unidentified items do you come across? Can I get by with just identifying what I find at the merchants?)
I can't tell you how many Items your going to come across as each play style differs but I will tell you that IDing in stores can cost from 500 to 1000 gold, typiclly costing more then youd get selling the weapon. If your looking to make money selling your unidentified loot, you should probably find a way of getting some points in lore.

All right... this is all I can think of for now. Thanks in advance.[/quote]

Ahhh... well then I will be rerolling for the... *counts on his fingers* sixth time?

I ALMOST got it down... then I found out you sneaky people made custom prestige classes!

Now I have to reroll so I can aim for Master of Many Forms... and not only that, but find how I can get Guardian of the Grove before level six...

But besides that... let me say ZOMG THANK YOU!

Being a humanoid is SO boreing... shifting is the way to go...

EDIT: Oh, and is there a way to be a Samurai at level one? In my character creation screen none of your custom classes are shown. They only show up in the leveling screen...

MOMF is a fun PrC, though the really cool forms with actual combat effectiveness, don't start showing up till level 3. (Well there is the troll at level 2, I guess, hes pretty strong and has regen)

But the true strength of the MOMF is that in his 10 levels of progression, you'll gain access to around 100 forms total. Combined with our disguise popup, your gonna be a master at intrigue and spying.

For now: No, there is no effective way of taking Samurai at level 1. Blame obsidian.

            100 forms?! Thats... insane...

            And I LOVE IT!

And how do you use the disguise popup? I have seen the button for it... but have no idea what in the world it is for.

And dont worry about the Samurai... I can just take a level of fighter/barbarian etc. first. And then two of Samurai since you start at level three...

But first thing is first... I have to iron out all the kinks in my Druid and get him rolling...

My main problem is, admittedly, me being anal... If I screw something up it will bug me every time I play that character... even if it is still plenty playable.

But WHATEVA! I am an inch from never having to reroll him again...

Can't you just use DMFI to change your name instead?

Edit: On that note, is DMFI even in this server? I can't remember.

It is used, but that function has been disabled on Sundren. If characters were to change their names, I think a lot of the database entries would get completely out of whack for the character.
