I think the update idea is good, there aren't that many different places so it's much funnier to discover all the areas and retain some as mysterious places you've only heard about from the more experienced people, which makes it all the funnier when you finally find there.

I haven't done any of these quests so I don't know how well they would work, whether it's just discovering them and moving on or if it's difficult to actually get them done.

IMO the quests should be just somewhat easy to perform so that they wouldn't enforce you heavily, such as "kill the very hardest boss of the area before you can move to the next" or "get level x before you can get to area y", but as side-quests that you can do as alternative to killing goblins when at early levels, I would say it's a good idea.

Most of the quests unlock the area as a lead-in to the quest, not as a quest reward. Your sent to that area as part of the quest.

I'll be honest, specific quests are level based, so without a DM, certain areas are not accessible to lower levels (and for damn good reason. I won't mention my first two experiances with schild moutain or the lizardmen in sestra. )

I think there could be some sort of guideline instead of actual level restriction because it's really hard to determine the strength of each individuals.
A group of low levels can kill more effectively than one or two higher level people.
It wouldn't be fun if you'd be enforced to kill something weak because you're a week away from the certain level and unable to go to the actual challenging area so you'd have to smash the weak creeps and it would take all that precious RP time from you.

Perhaps there could be an OOC warning for people who are concidered in general too low level for hunting in the new area so that if you absolutely want to defy the suggestions, it's you who made the decision when the char gets whooped.

I'm not insulting anyone or targetting anyone, but I'm really tired of debating this. You guys can post whatever you want in this thread. I'm not reading this thread anymore. Its taking time away from making stuff and RPing. *waves*

I appreciate all the hard work the developers and people have put into this map idea, but I have to say something now that I've been trying to unlock places for an hour or better..

I think this idea will reduce the good impressions of newcomers to sundren.. Even as an established player I have been having a hard time with unlocking areas. The quests are not linear, which makes them difficult..
Just my 2 cents, but if the higher level areas are to proove so game ruining to new players, then why don't we have a merchant with maps to purchase or something for costs based on the difficulty of the locations.. Or have guards give you information on directions... allow the npc to judge our abilities, and if we have a group then maybe allow them to tell us a bigger place than our lvl alone would allow..

I understand no one wants to go and die by accident but the new system just doesn't seem the answer to me. Again I am just saying this to hopefully progress the system, and to bring to light my opinion. I value heavily the dedication of the developing team.

                Durin,

Thank you for your constructive feedback. Your comments are exactly the kind of things we appreciate hearing. When comments are phrased maturely we are much more receptive to the ideas.

While this system may or may not stay in place, I just wanted to thank you for your feedback, and the manner in which you delivered it.

Ok I'm going to rant, but not in the way people are thinking. I don't care how buggy a system is when it's first implemented, we've been through this with crafting, with custom spells, with everything that has turned out great here. I love Sundren, it's my favorite server ever. So just give the team time to work things out and it will be fine, for god's sake. I know things aren't perfect yet, nothing starting out is. Sean and others worked their asses off to do this, and the least we owe them is a thank you for their unpaid time. The rest will work itself out. It always does

If I might offer a suggestion, the PW I played on Prior to coming to Sundren had dialogues for entering various hunting grounds, just as when you clicked on a sewer lid a dialogue would pop up with the options of descend or walk away, and the descend option only showed up if you were of the correct level. Cave entraces were the same, venture in or walk away... venture in only being available if you were of a specific level.

I am just offering this as a possible suggestion.

A lot of work went into the current system, it's not going anywhere. The quests may become more streamlined or straightforward if issues arise with that however.

Yesterday I created a character (Zula Jericho).
I did the most quests of Port Avanthyr:

                        Ortmar (Jula Dress)
                        Jula (Don't feel like dancing)
Barman of the Menacing Mariner (Liquor Tax Letter)
Man of the City Hall (Loitering Mariner)
                        Deaf Man (Overdue Books)

                        and taken the following quest:

Pest Control Part I (Master Watchman)
Baneguard in the Hills (Brother Melchior)

And I ended on a dead end.
I have discovered ALL Sundren City and Port Avanthyr, but Melchior didn't gave me the location of the Hills.
Also, I talked to the general on the Exigo HQ and didn't gave me the location of the Hills.

Pom said me: Talk to Feedlesworth, but I don't know where he is
