  • Pickpocket

The Wiki says it is not to be abused... nothing else on the subject.

I was of the impression that running past a PC, pickpocketing without even a trace of RP, then leaving the area was not very good manners (they failed their attempt, but still)

Not good manners, but is it abusing?

It wouldn't really be abuse so much, since generally a pickpocket doesn't hang around and chat. However, it would be good RP for your character to run after them and subdue them and submit them to the authorities. Bring some friends along too!

It helps if there is a DM on, but you can meet out justice on your own if able. The only trouble comes with the transitions where they can pretty much go anywhere and you can't follow, which makes no sense. I would send a tell and ask them which zone they went to. Then they should respond honestly, then wait for you to arrive and attack you, or run and hide.

      Bahahah!

I guess unless they decided to hit everyone in the area or dash in and out repeatedly that might be abusing (disclaimer: I know nothing).

If they fail and get spotted surely it's a sign that the gods require a lynching party? You bring the pitchforks and marshmallows , I'll get the rope and torches..

Or.. maybe the report em to the law if your that way inclined? a few posters with a description dotted around should soon teach them the error of their ways (although a lynching might do that quicker and on a more perminant basis)

Think of the other side of the coin. I've seen many times where pickpockets nicely state what they're doing in emotes, only to have the target suddenly shift positions, flee the area, etc. Not everyone is as open to receiving PP attempts as you may be

What they did isn't abuse. Abuse is purposely vague, but I think it would encompass things like repeatedly PPing the same person over and over, as well as PPing in stupid situations (in front of guards, for example).

You really should find a private tree if you are going to PP, preferably behind the rock at the exigo fire. Of course it is easier if you are of the male persuasion.

Thanks for the responses, guys. That works for me. There was a much harsher rule against PP on the server I previously played on (read: "Don't, unless a DM agrees to watch"), so I thought I'd get it straight - and since I was in the middle of typing a longish tell when it happened I was a bit slow to react. And then the character was off line.

*edit* oh, and yes, if happened right at the Trade Tier gate, with two NPC guards right next to me *shrug*

Get a DM if you can, Ver. Screenshot if possible. I would have definitely done something if that was the case.

I define pickpocket abuse as repeatedly spamming it or continually griefing a particular player and running away.

Anyone caught exhibiting this kind of behaviour will be penalized.

Also keep in mind just because guards are there doesn't mean they saw the pickpocket.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

Of course not, but there are certain DC penalties to the spot that would be applied, right? If a DM's not there, can't do that. Tough noggies I guess. Just use discression was my point, I guess.
