  • Starting Inventory and Gold

(Sorry if there is a more appropriate forum to post this.)

    Greetings,

What are the guidelines for starting gold and equipment?

I am asking because the fighter (Ellianne Ellesfaire) I just created spawned with a suit of scale mail and... and... and that's all. No gold, no weapon. I'm all for challenges and I'm here for the RP primarily, but I'm not going to get far without a rusty dagger or something.

Just wondering if I missed something? Any help is much appreciated!

I think that when you go through the portal you are given gold...I was given 300 coins when I passed through the portal after making my character. I'm not sure if the amount of gold you receive is dependent on which of the options you choose though. But 300 gold should be enough to buy you some basic equipment at the smithy in Avanthyr.

In that case, I might be the cause of the problem. I went through the portal, then created a new character with the same name because I messed up my skill point allocation (forgot to click customize ). That might have erased the gold I received from the portal and placed my "new" (v2.0) character where v1.0 left off in Sundren City rather than inside the starting area.

      Hmm...

You must use a different name or have a DM delete your character and recreate again.

You CANNOT create another character with the same name. Period. This causes a lot of issues. We now have to do a DB reset on your character and delete the files. I will be able to do this later if you're on.

Odd that shouldn't happen because when you create a new character with the exact same name the new character shouldn't be there and nothing should happen to the old character. Your old character should still be there untouched...if you want a new character you'd have to alter the name a little or make one with a new name...

Characters are Key'd by character name AND player name. If you use the same character name you will wind up with the database information of the first character created.

Oh I see...didn't know that. Not sure if it was like that for NWN 1...

If people used DB storage, it was.

This has nothing to do with the game's core code, Sundren is databse driven to be persistent and we use a custom solution for player tracking.

Ok, didn't realize it would cause so much trouble, really. I will be on later, probably hiding in a back alley for the next month or so.

It's not all that big, but people start complaining we're buggy when it happens. And some people will read info on "Don't make the same name twice" and will do so anyway It's one of those "You're catching the tail end of a LOOOOOOOONG standing problem of PW's"

I suggest adding this guideline to the OOC room.
