  • Character rebuild

EDIT: Previous idea was a stupid one, forget it.

Idea Redux: if I wanted to rebuild my character for whatever reason, would I be allowed to just delete it and make a new one with same name, bio, and class? Presuming I came up with a good rp reason, of course.

We can de-level Sammael for you to level 3 or level 1. But you won't get your levels back. Ask any DM to de-level you.

To be honest, it doesn't seem like a good deal. For the trouble it's worth and the disruption to how you roleplay, you might as well just create a new character entirely. At least that way you don't need to work out a reason for why your character is suddenly much weaker and anyway, would it really suit your roleplay to have the most uber character around?

He may have very good RP reasons for his decision. Let's let him make that choice, thanks.

I can think of bundles of reasons why Sam would suddenly be weaker, and the 'uber character' thing is rather up to me.

Cadmus did it, and he went from being a wizard to a cleric. It was a bit far fetched but he pulled it off. I remember commenting on how it was fun to actually play with him at the same challenge level. Of course then he left the server soon after for some reason.

Landaren went through a big character change too, but he was allowed to relevel his character I think.

It would be nice if more characters actually died permanently. Kemnebi is the only one who I can recall. The trouble is that there is no incentive to do this that I know.

I think if there was a big incenitive to kill your char there would be more people who would allow their char to be killed off. But why would anyone want their char killed off that they spent months and even years creating. Its not worth it. I talked Kemnbi and he had 2 choices and he didnt like any of them so he chose death.

It's not about "liking" the consequences. We try to make Sundren fun, but sometimes you back your character into a corner, and there are few reasonable consequences. Permadeath is seldomly used here, but that possibility always exists.

Ah, I didn't know that. That's encouraging; I'm thinking of rebuilding Sam sans the Arcane Scholar levels, at some point.

Sometimes it is just good RP to end your story with a glorious (or inglorious!) death. Authors kill their characters all the time. One guy tried to do it and some fat lady kidnapped him and hobbled his legs! (See Misery by Stephen King)

To prove a point, I am going to drive one of my characters into the ground and get him permakilled just for fun. Hey, and don't forget that ALL of our characters could get wiped someday. This is still a Beta ya know.

With how the cube plot is going, that's a very real possibility.
