Okay, it's happened so many times, so I think it should recieve a post.
I wander around as a rat, as a bird, and sometimes as a pig, or chicken or something stupid like that. But everytime, without fail, at least one person treats it as though it is some kind of freak occurrence. It is getting frusterating.
If you see a bird in a tree, and you're in a forest, you have to assume that it really isn't that strange... there is no reason to call out "Hey, look, a bird!", or "Let's touch it and stuff!", because realistically there are tons of birds flying about. It's a forest. And also, please don't assume that the bird is actually running. I know it looks like it's on the ground, but birds can't really run that fast - feel confident in the opposite assumption, being that the bird is actually flying.
With flight coming into the picture, something else should be noted. Yes, True Sight sees through polymorph, and yes you can spot a bird in the air, but take into account that your character probably doesn't spontaneously look straight into the air without provocation. I mean, how often in real life do you tilt your neck back and look up on a 100% vertical angle just to check if there is a bird in the vacinity? It might happen... but not that often. And if you were being chased by orcs, gnolls, and goblins, you are probably even less likely to check for miscellaneous birds. So, yeah... I don't mind being spotted, detected, or declared to be polymorphed, but try to ensure that it makes sense that your character even saw me in the first place.
This applies for all things. If I'm in chicken-form in the middle of a chicken-pen, don't declare "That chicken is different from all the other chickens, on account of it having the name 'Karthus' floating over it!", or something to that effect. Try to treat the situation as though you really didn't know it was a PC - because really, unless you have True Sight active, you don't know. And on that note, don't cast True Sight just because an animal shows up, and you want to know if it's actually Karthus in disguise. Realistically, to make this RP logical, you'd have to cast True Sight a lot as you have to figure that there are a lot more animals than just one shapeshifting Druid.
And, yeah... that's all I can think to say at 3:26am. I'll be back, though.
