Heh, acutally, Crazyjerren, the moving system here is a bit annoying. I know its easier not to go through soo many areas, but heres the problem, my char Sylivia was chasing Anaya for quite a while, all she ever did was use the transition and move back and forth to places to keep on losing me. It was reaaaaaly horrible, and my char could never acutally chase Anaya and capture her.

Wow...with all the topics we COULD be talking about, this is what is getting some people up in arms?
Give me a break.
We have griefers and looters and players stealing from other players and an outrageous number of ECL Races and other issues and we're whining about running?
Just so the author of this thread understands, I like to RP, but time for me is a premium. You want to walk from place to place, hey, I won't stop you. I'm glad your time affords you that luxury.
Time for me however is not a luxury. And when I log in to play, I want to PLAY. I don't want to spend any more time than I have to, to appease your sense of how I should play, walking to play the few hours a night I get to play. I'll run if I need to and walk if I wish, time permitting.
If that means as a player you wish to avoid me for having fun in the limited time I have to have fun, by all means do so. You'll be depriving yourself an opportunity to RP with someone who likes to RP and does so often.
This is a game. It's supposed to be fun. An escape from reality and the roteness of real life.
Please, get over your own sense of what RP is and let others enjoy what time they have to play.
If this is that much of an issue for you, then you could simply ignore the players who don't play to your standards.
Why is it that whenever someone is having a good time you find one person out there for which that is simply not good enough. They feel the need to make you conform to their way of having fun.
A runner or a walker neither pricks my finger nor offends my eye. They do not detract from my enjoyment of the game.
Not sure why it offends yours so much.

Yes.Originally posted by undeadsteak View PostTheLongbowHunter, did it ever occur to you, that you could have said that in a nicer way? This is just one of the problems, the ECL races being overpopulated is a bigger problem, i understand, but the DMs require approval for them now.
And I made a desicion not to. The original post was not a friendly post. I felt a need to respond in kind.

Hmm... Im new here, and dont really want to step on anyones toes, but Hunter noones specifically forcing their "style" of RP on you sorta thing.. their just expressing their dislike for peoples rushing from one places to the next.
I can understand where your coming from though.. When im working my time online is limited as hell as well, but for some they got all the time in the world, and (maybe because of that) small things like that agitate them. *Shrugs*

Unfortunately, NWN2 does not give us the option for walk, jog, slow run, fast run, and sprint. It's walk, or run. I usually figure the "run" as a decent jog, just to cover distance. But my PCs almost always walk in cities and around other people.Originally posted by Guywise View PostAgility in the armor is not question. Just the fact of running in it. I spent a good part of my life in the military. And have run with 20-25 extra pounds(Basic Webgear, full canteens and ammo pouches, along with my weapon) Not even a full ruck. And I defy ya to do it for any great distance. A full sprint not a halfassed jog.
Chain can be well distributed on the body with the use of a belt. It doesn't just hang from the shoulders. The belt takes a lot of the weight to the hips, where the bones can support it. It's not as good as the articulated plate, but it's not as bad as some people think.
And yes, I've worn armour. My chain shirt and coif are downstairs in the garage. I've personally seen someone do a backflip in plate. And like the Army guys, knights in history were trained to wear the stuff and move in it, and had to wear it for several hours a day during their training. The knights in wars had to be able to survive, so they had to be trained to be able to wear it for hours. And mount a horse. Those guys had Admantium constitutions. No, they didn't run into battle.
They rode horses.

I think that characters running CONSTANTLY with their plate mail/or even just running all the time at all is soooo sooooo so bad rp, and should be frowned on more than or as much as meta-gaming... maybe these things will be cracked down upon once we're out of beta, but I wouldn't think it a bad idea for DMs to just strike a player dead (to 0 hp) whose been running accross the entire world, could be heart failure, exhaustion, heat stroke, who knows why?
Sounds like that to me.
And this:
If you saw through my eyes though, you would probably laugh. Part of my fun these days is laying traps in the way of people who rush around as if they are playing diablo 2, leaving the walkers in their party behind, etc etc. I don't mind running around in combat, but the game loses something when I see every single person running everywhere they go.
Sorry Saulus, I'm with the OP on this one. It makes DM'ing much more difficult and talking to people during play much more difficult if people are running all day.
One of these is from a player and one is from a DM. Dropping traps to force a player to walk...sounds like someone is trying to force a change to me.

Well im not one to argue but I will throw this on the table for comedy reasons. Other than that I think Ill step right out of this before I get burnt from a flame war.Originally posted by GodBeastX View PostNobody is going to MAKE people walk. Basically, it gets on people's nerves how MUCH people run. Not that they run. I will never force people to walk everywhere all the time. Even I do a run around when I really don't feel like walking through something, but the point is if you're just run run run then you're killing a piece of the game.Solaris Firecrest - Bright Smiled Erratic Priest of Tempus

No problem.
I'm okay with walking being a choice....but I'm not about draconian solutions to problems. Asking for players to be struck dead or playing traps to correct behavior you don't like is extreme.
I don't mind a DM sending a tell nudging me to walk because I am "tired".....but killing a player...I don't see how that encourages anything but sour feelings.
I just want to see a positive solution to these kind of issues. Extreme solutions should only be reserved for extreme behavior. Constant griefing, item theft or loot stealing.
An example of a positive solution is justifying through an application playing an ECL Race. They're not saying you can't, but they're saying you really need to justify why you wish to play a rare race.

*Shrugs* If Godbeasts lays those traps there its not because that player is running, it's because the player is power gaming and he punishes him accordingly.

I see everyones point. The more I think about it I guess where i get annoyed is as a previous person stated ya try to greet someone or ask a question IC and by the time ya get it out they have run by ya. Gets somewhat frustrating especially if you are a new guy and need a push in the right direction.Nobody ever won a war by dying for his country. Yeah, GBX laying traps isn't trying to punish a player who is running, but its to punish a player who constantly refuses to play as a part of the team, or who is powergaming. Now if the entire party were to be running through a dungeon and RPing it at the same time, I don't really think he'd start laying traps over and over again."The Weave is the source of all magic in Faerun, and I would give my life to protect it!"

I don't mind if people run as long as they are respectful and mindful of others around them. For example, had a couple people just barrel right -through- my character and through a group of players. Now that isn't entirely cool. There also needs to be a happy medium when you're in a group and not everyone within the group likes to either run or walk. I find it difficult to RP if I have to spend my time just catching up with a companion who runs all the time, but that's just me. So again, it comes down to a matter of respect for others.

The only reasons I run constantly are:
RPing BFM (From Travel Domain) And to try and get unstuck from lag/obstacles and such my PC gets stuck on. I otherwise agree, but people with light/no armor, like monks, should be able to run as much as they want due to the speed bonus that you can factor in RP Wise.
