ok, how do I contact a dm? Does it show they're a DM in the players list? Or do I need to use that DM chat button thing? Thanks!"Who needs a plan when you've got an Axe!"

Use your journal ingame, there is a help and contact message. The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

for characters that don't recvive divine spells alignment change can be easily done. Thought the this may attrached the attention of the god you left, seeing you as a traitor, and may bring about dire consiquences, but not ussually.
Characters that get their divine spells from one god and then leave that god, would lose any spells slots they aquired as a devout follower of a god (specially if the new god is considered and enemy of the old one, and some gods are very vengeful , even on the good side for leaving them)
remeber, dragon, demons, devils angel avatars and magic are real in the forgotten realms. The religions are true, the gods have walked the earth. Your suppose to RP your character with this in mind when your playing.

RP Spoiler Alert...
I really asked because I playa a favored soul.
Cade really pushes the boundries. He follows his chaotic nature, and also follows the destructive force of Talos. Cade however is not evil by any means. He may be inhuman and non-caring at some times, but not evil. Since he has never been exposed to a church of Talos, he knows nothing of what the Clerics and Priests do there. From PHB2 and Complete Divine:
Alignment: Divine magic is intuitive to a favored soul, not a matter of careful prayer. This intuitive nature leads to a freer interpretation of faith and doctrine, and so favored souls tend to lean slightly more twards chaos over law.
Everyone thinks he follows Helm IC, but he is slowly starting to drop hints that he does not. He has only let it slip to one person.
Because favored souls don't have to deal with the hierarchey of the Church, Cade is free to do what he thinks is best. And, because of his up-bringing, he is not evil.
However, he one day may do something that is very evil, that is why I asked in the first place. You never can tell...
P.S. If I am totally wrong in this, I don't care to change my RP story arc...

I've never actually had to quote myself before but...
The topic is about wether changing alignments/dieties is allowed on Sundren. Not how Forgottern realms, PNP, or someone else does it.Originally posted by sharringtonm View PostNow if you all want to debate how things should be with gods (in your opinions), I encourage you to do so... over in the off topic thread.
Cmon.. we can do this.. we can keep a single threat on topic! I have faith in you all. Pun intended

My problem with alignment change is that it is only done in regards to what DM's actually see. If I run around and do massively good deeds when no DM's are looking, but then do a few bad ones when they are, I end up being evil when the majority of my acts are actually selfless and benevolant. Also, it doesn't take into account what a character's motivations or long-term intentions are, and relies solely on the act itself, which might only be a very small piece of the puzzle. And chances are, when the other pieces of the puzzle are revealed, a DM won't be looking.Pyras: Red Wizard of Thay, High Arcanist of Illusion, Master of the Enclave's Knight Commander.

Depending on the situation it might be exactly what you deserve. If i was a DM and saw you murder somebody (i mean really murder, not manslaughter) i would shift you directly to evil no matter whether you are a boy scout and help old ladies to cross the street all day. Of course this is a rather extreme example. But i would say that alignment shifts lawfull->chaotic and especially good->evil are much, much faster than the other way round. So a single evil deed can be already one to much, no matter what you do the rest of the day when there is no DM around.Originally posted by Kangleton View PostI run around and do massively good deeds when no DM's are looking, but then do a few bad ones when they are, I end up being evil when the majority of my acts are actually selfless and benevolant.

I usually shift alignments by fairly small increments in response to what I see. Believe it or not we often do have some idea as to the broader context of actions (here's lookin' at you Kang), as we see a fair bit and share information, however we mightn't always be in agreement with a player on what those mean in terms of alignment so there are bound to be mismatches betweem expectations and outcomes. That said, I apply alignment shifts on a regular basis; most of the time people are happy with it, and quite often say things like "Ah, I've been expecting that for a while, glad someone's done it."
Alignment should be fluid. It's true that we don't know everything about your PC, but if you explain why you think a shift is misguided (explain, not argue), then we may reconsider (I have done this also). The alternative to shifting alignments based on what we know and see is not shifting them at all, and I don't think anyone benefits from all PCs on the server having static alignments.

@Mach
I agree with the static part. It makes playing classes restricted to alignment far more of a challenge because of this. In fact - The biggest struggle I've had with Hano was learning how to RP a Paladin properly.. Through trial and error.
Too many times I feared OOC I was going to be depaladinized, but in the end.. It was a great experience!"Kaeldorn hates players." -Albert Einstein
