You all know how I love to give nit-picking reminders of silly rules. Well, here's a couple for ya!

    (1) NPC Guards
This one's easy to forget, so I'm just posting a reminder. Even if there are no DMs about, the NPCs are still there. This applies particularly in the case of guards. Realistically, your PC would have a damn hard (probably impossible) time escaping from, say, the middle of Sundren City if there was violence or offensive spellcasting. The guards would detain them, or if that failed then they might be marked as a fugitive (please note that the consequences of these things need a DM decision). If these sorts of things happen, one of the parties should make a quick post in the help channel explaining what went down so we can react appropriately. Please don't decide on how the authorities would react yourself, just let us know!

[EDIT] If you're posting in the help forum about this stuff, snap a screenshot of the action (the 'print screen' button does this) and attach it to your post.

    (2) PvP and setting hostile.
    Two points about this.

    (a) Always set people hostile before engaging in PvP (or even if you suspect PvP might be imminent).

    (b) Setting people hostile is an entirely OOC action. If someone sets you hostile, your PC does not know about it. Assuming someone is going to attack simply because they've set hostile is metagaming.

I was JUST talking to LH about making a little reminders post. We've seen some sloppy stuff lately and just want to be sure folks are playing fair. Here's two more reminders:

    1) Please be careful with what you post. Don't speak for NPCs unless a DM has approved it or you are paraphrasing what a DM said as an NPC in-game. Don't out anyone with OOC comments--handmade drawings are not the same as names. We like the in-character posts a lot but they must adhere to guidelines. God-modding is a definite no-no.

    2) No more OOC tells for rescues in PVP / alerting players during events etc. If you're going to use a Sending spell, that's OK for the most part. If you're "sending a bird with a note," you MUST tell a DM of your actions. Birds don't arrive instantly, nor do they know where the recipient is at all times. And DEFINITELY no OOC pleading for help when being attacked by Samantha... *cough* ...or anyone else.

    Thanks

I was JUST talking to LH, too.

It's true that we've had to remind people about the rules lately, and I hope that friendly reinforcement is taken as positive and helpful. We're not here to make your lives hell, but we are here to ensure a fun, fair, and even playing experience for everyone.

Please, take this time to refresh yourself on the rules. And if you're unclear on something, please ask. That's what we're here for.

Excuse me... Are we playing the same game? Because last I checked Mach was in fact a DM here. Not here to make our lives a living hell, PSHA!

More seriously I enjoy players that have respected these rules and have been more than fair with high level vs low level PvP. Kudos to them, and I hope other characters will follow their example.

One question. Is using the Find Player DMFI considered meta-gaming? I usually use that to see where everyone is if I am bored or looking for RP opportunities.

Take last night, I used it and found a bunch of people at the Gate of the Sunderer. So I went over there and saw that an RP was taking place. I did what my character would do and just observed what was going on and then reported to "somebody."

Now, what was his RP reason for being at the gate, well, he did help the mage there with some bandits and gets a discount on all magical items; therefore, he was going there to collect some gear. He saw the fire at the barrels, was alerted, and then saw the other people.

I just want to know what the rules are for the Find Player function.

That's how it should be used. If you're sitting around for 10 minutes and haven't seen a soul, it's fine to use it to find company. If it's abused, we'll remove it.

Obviously, it should not be used to track people who are escaping or trying to stay hidden. Or to crash DM events that are private.

If you stumble on an event, just ask the DM if you can join up. Last night was not a problem at all.

If that's the case then shouldn't those parties just toggle themselves as unsearchable?

I have learned to stay "unsearchable" whenever I am online, not because people are abusing the locator, but because I know how much general love and happiness my presense brings when I crash a party and I'd hate to ruin the surprise
Tis now the very witching time of night,

Aye, Richard is almost always unsearchable, especially when he's wandering invisiblily. The only time I set him to searchable is when I want him to be found, such as when he's sitting around Exigo or in the Mariner.
