Now my main problem is actually logging into the multiplayer. Every time I've attempted to log in it simply tells me that the name authorization server is down and then it skips the authorization service. However after this I cant seem to connect to any of the servers. Even a direct connect doesn't work. Sorry to bug everyone like this again.

What's your internet connection speed? Are you using a wireless router? Are you behind a firewall?
These are all likely contributing factors to your problems. The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

My internet speed is unknown at the moment, its a big university network and the internet is blindingly fast when loading pages etc. I use a wired connection and connect through a program called puTTY. I disabled my firewall and my AV programs before attempting to connect, I was successfull at one point but then the game crashed and my problem resumed. If its relevant MSN messenger has also stopped working since then.

Likely your university is blocking port traffic other than standard ports like 80.The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

I'm gonna have to agree with that I'm afraid
Oh well I have an IT course on Tuesday and I can generally get the tutor to help me 'fix' problems like that.
Thanks for the help again Saulus. I think when its all fixed I'll write down everything that we did to fix the problem so that if someone sometime down the line has a similar problem there'll be something to refer to.

Well basically if you have properly installed .NET 3.5, disabled firewall/antivirus everything should be good in regards to the updater/game. If you still have issues after that, and you're not on wireless, then it's definetly whoever maintains your internet connection (IE The University) that is blocking the traffic. The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

I actually have this problem sometimes. In regards to my situation it's normally a glitch. The way I think of it, is that sometimes programs and electronics can be fickle. Normally it happens to me when I got one of those lovely NWN2 client crashes for walking the wrong way or something lol. What normally works for me is restarting the client a few times and trying to log in, and/or restarting my computer, try that if you already haven't.Akodo
Rhime - or is he?
